[ main > about ]
To be an entertaining and informative Web site encompassing the
physically demanding and acrobatic techniques based in combat arts used in
a wide range of physically intensive activities from sports to
entertainment.
Combastics is an entertainment focused presentation of physical
techniques that have, for the most part, been around for a long time. In
addition to it's historical roots, new techniques are being created almost
daily.
The name Combastics is derived from the descriptive phrase, "combative
gymnastics." While Combastics incorporates elements of gymnastics and karate it is
separate from both. It is not karate because of its many high difficulty techniques that
would be impractical for fighting. Yet, it is not gymnastics or pure dance
because each move no matter
how acrobatic is usually based on a kick or strike.
The techniques are similar to those seen in many of the old and new
martial arts movies and TV
series like Mortal Kombat, The Matrix, Blade and even Power Rangers. In fact, Combastics is more closely related to stage and screen
fighting than to boxing or sparring.
Increasingly, these moves are being seen in many forms of dance. You'd be
hard pressed to not see moves such as au batidos, gainers, or twists in many
of today's music videos and live performances.
The individual elements of Combastics have been around a long time. The name and packaging of
Combastics was created and officially registered in 1998. The idea grew from the
founder's fascination with
Hong Kong action films and sport karate competition circuits back in the early 1990's.
The future of Combastics is the Web site you see taking shape here. While
still very martial arts based, many of the training portions of Combastics are being spun off to a new venture called
NeoKarate.
