Martial Arts and the Study of History

Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. Below we list some of our favorite history site. Most are military related, which ties in with the study of martial arts.

   www. War of 1812 -history.com
The war of 1812 was fought primarily between the United States and Great Britain. The war began when the Americans declared war on Britain on June 18th 1812, and lasted until the beginning of 1815. The war was officially over, after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent on December 24th 1814, and was ratified by the US president on February 17th 1815.

There was controversy between the North and South for many years before the American Civil War. Some of the Issues included states rights, tariffs and of course - slavery. There were many attempts to reach a compromise between the feuding southern and northern states.

    www. Declaration of Independence -history.com
The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776 declaring independence from Great Britain. The document was written by Thomas Jefferson in only 17 days, during the second continental congress. The Declaration of Independence was not actually signed until August 1st, 1776, it was approved on July 4. We celebrate July 4th every year, celebrating the Declaration of Independence and The United States as a free and independent nation - Independence Day.
