this move is most easily executed by jumping up as you swing your arms back in a circle, then laying your body parrelel with the ground. now complete the circle with your arms and grab the backs of your legs. pull (as you kick) them up as close to your head as possible. if done properly, your feet will hit. the hardest part is overcoming the fear of flipping backward which can be overcome through backhandsprings.

if u can do back handsprings then don't worry much. try to do a flip, when u fail your hands will catch u, so u don't fall on your head. and try the backflip into the pool, or from a lil higher thing like from chair or box to a soft surface. or let your partner help u, let him like carry u, when he puts his hands on your back, so u can't fall..

flemm is absolutely right, but its even easier then that! only worry about touching your hands and rolling down your stomach. this is closer to a backflip and if you are using a hanmdspring as backup, you will tend to "chicken out" into a handspring. anyway, if you tuck up, you'll be alright on grass.

the key to landing on your feet as opposed to landing on your knees, gut, head, etc, is execution. Without proper execution, the trick will fail. To do the back flip correctly, you should jump straight up as HIGH as you can, with your arms lifting straight up over your head, NEVER backwards. At the peak of your jump, pull your knees over your head. DO NOT grab your knees as this will counteract your lift from the jump and only serve to put your head closer to the ground! Keep your head in a neutral position, NOT looking backwards. The jump and arm lift will provide the height you need; a quick, hard pull of your knees over your head will provide the rotation. If you are landing on your knees or worse, then start by trying to improve your take off jump. Height and body position are the key. Make sure your back stays straight during the entire trick. At no time should your back arch (bend backwards). This is also easier learned with a trained spotter to provide extra lift or rotation until you get the hang of it on your own.

Backflip kick

This is the same move done on StreetFighter by Guille. The way you do this is that you run forward but not too fast though if ya running too fast you'll lose momentum!!! And end up throwing yourself and collapse your entire body! and you might be end up crushing hand it's happened to me before and I couldn't do windmill, turtle, or even handstand!!) , try to imagine yourself kicking the soccer ball on the right leg, launch your hands and legs and your body up, and then grap your legs(once you grap your legs so you end up tucking your legs to your chest! The more you tuck your body the more u get high!!!!) as if you are doin' backflip, is that clear??

Some people was wondering how can the legs goes up?? Well my answer is that you have to kick! all momentum its came from you legs and. Meantime you are in the mid air try to imagine yourself as if you are doin' backflip by grapping your legs, that's it.~

Tips for Learning backflips

A good place to practice these is at the beach or the dunes. Number one, landing in soft sand doesn't hurt - at all. Number two, if you can pull it off while jumping out of the sand (which is VERY difficult because sand shifts and displaces under weight) then you'll be able to do it on a hard surface with ease. Also, when rotating throw your arms back AS you jump. This will give you extra rotation (a good tuck is very important as well.) Another good habit to get into is to look back - without turning your head. Your body will follow your head, and if you're looking back you'll see the ground sooner and be able to judge your landing.

Johnny is absolutely right. sand is a good training ground. it is even easier for a beginner to practice on a dune standing on top (edge) with your back to the descent and launch of...landing a little lower than you started. this gives you more room. you can even do a phat launch backwards landing a about 2 or 3 meters behind you with a backarch (good for spectators). but you don't want to get into that habbit, because you really want to tuck when doing it on a flat surface.

it is easyer to do an arab spring into a full backflip with out using your hands because you already have the speed and momentum of the rotation,and also keep your eyes open so you can see the floor this will help to land on your feet.

ive just learned a new form for backflipping which can be done with nearly no effort. the key is speed. you start off like any other backflipbut kinda up on your toes. you get your spring from the calves.bend your knees but not too much, somewhere around 120 degrees is good. swing your arms back and then up very quickly and as you jump, grab your now straightened legs almost sweeping them out from under you. your legs should remain sraight but pulled up at least to be perpendicular with your body.if executed quickly enough you will land back on your feet with a backflip that will blow away your friends' flips. this can also be used to break boards and is even quick enough to pop balloons held lightly on one end.

Hello, I am Shandra and i have been a tumbler for about 6 years. I self taught myself most of my skills and recently for the 3rd time started taking lessons.

Back Tuck. most preparation skill should be practiced on a Tumbl Trak or a trampoline.
first work on timers. What is a timer? Its when u jump straight up and bring your knees up to your face.
after times complete the turn.
jump straight up tuck your knees in and stare at something straight ahead until your knees take control and flip you over. your back should not be arched at all. your head should not swing back. it should remain tucked in.

In all the gyms I train at in London UK, a "backflip" is what you guys would call a "back handspring". A full backwards rotation in the air most people call a "back somersault" or "tuck back" or "straight back" ,etc.

I learned to backflip on a trampoline, taught by a friend of mine who is very good at it. I learned to do it, then for some reason I lost the nerve - I got psyched out in mid air every time I tried it. Then a month later, I could do it again. Then I lost it again. I know how to do it, I know that I have done it, and that I can do it, I'm just a wimp. ^_^

you think you´re to big to backflip? that´s bullshit, we had capoeira masters being as big as a door (about 229 pounds) doing perfect backflips on solid ground. It doesn´t matter how big you are I have seen giants flip.

I learned back-handsprings first. Two friends faced each other with joined hands and ducked down a little. All you have to do is clear their arms. I lost it for a while after that. If you want to get used to flipping backwards, practice in a pool. I just learned how to do a backflip. I got up the nerve to try one off something a little off the ground. After seeing how easy it was, I tryed it off higher obstacles... I got so used to the sensation that when I went to back-handspring one day, I just did it... and now its easy for me. Right now I'm trying to learn to do a wall flip as soon as I get up the courage...

if u can do a fronthandspring then you can do a backhandspring. 1 reason is that a fronthandspring takes more strength and its harder to land then a backhandspring. get a thick matress and try to overcome the fear, once u could get ur hands to touch the ground in a backhandspring u basically got it down, then u have to learn rounding off into it.

I know that when everyone tries to do a backflip, the fear factor kicks in. An easy way to deafeat this is to not think of the flip. Instead of acting after you think, do it before. Just go, and when you do think, u will be back on the ground!

okay... i've been doing gymnastics for 5 years and i've never heard of a move (without using ur hands) being caled a back flip... we call 'em tucks, aerials etc... but what exactly r they?... they sound kinda cool tho...

the easiest way to take the pain away is to land on your toes, or rather, the balls of your feet, and roll the pressure away from this area into the back of the foot. Do this by shifting your weight toward your heel once you land on your toes, then spring upward from the balls of your feet. This bouncing helps you to lessen the stress of the impact pressure on your ankles. (Trust me, I used to have that problem-I didn't learn this until it stopped botherine me!)

Ok, here's how you do it guys...

Ok, I've been in gymnastics for a long time and I did just about every single wrong thing you can do before I learned how to do this correctly. I'll give you a sectional guide on how to do it correctly, and a few tips it's quite important that you read the tips, there's quite a bit of important things in there.

Part I: Step by Step Instructions.

1. Start in a standing position.

2. Jump straight up in a stretch jump.

3. When you reach at least very close to the peak of your jump, pull your knees over.

4. Land.

Part II: Tips.

1. It's very important that you jump straight up.

2. Do not throw your head back, this will cause your whole body to go almost straight back, like in a backhandspring. It is very important that you do NOT throw your body back. If you do, (unless you have a FREAKISHLY high jump) your tuck will not only not look good, but you might not even land it.

3. I first learned this trick by picturing someone behind me that I wanted to kick.

4. A lot of this trick is just mental, try picturing a very short wall behind you. You want to jump straight up and then rotate over the wall and land on the other side.

5. I STRONGLY reccomend that you have someone who really knows what he or she is doing spot you at least the first few times. Also, try practicing this trick on a large trampoline if you have access to one. Try bouncing first, then start doing it standing.

6. Have fun! Don't wear yourself out doing this and most importantly, don't get hurt.

learning a backflip can be dangerous.In order to a backflip you need to overcome the fear of landing on your head,knee,ect.When you first try it do it on a bed not in a jumphouse because you need to learn how to do it without jumping up and down.First put your arms infront of your face and be straight.Next swing your arms in the air and kick your legs to your face when you feel that weird thing in your boby that your about to fall thats a signal to backtuck.After that happens you'll land it.

on your tramp can you do it from bounce or from absolute normal standing?


if you can from absolute normal standing then you should probably be able to accomplish it.
the main thing tho if you feel confident then go for it because chances are you will make it

Hey Im a gymnast and Ive been doin it for 5 years.I can do backflip on absolutely anything.Im 11 years old but trust me im good.Im 2 time NZ champion. I cant do 360 backflip yet.But im learning.Listen to my pal aus gymnast.He has been doin it more than me.Thy to look straighte foward and during your take off jump as high as you can.Do not move your shoulders to your knees.Move your knees as fast as you can and you will get more rotation.If you are scared it will decrease your ability by 20 percent.So be calm and picture yourself doin it.If your gettin stressed sit down and consentrate for a while.Take off at the same time as you throw your hands over your head.Just trust me.It will work.

Backflip/Flash Kick tumbling

I've been landing back handsprings, backflips and flash kicks from doing roundoffs into them. It seems that I get a lot of momentum and people say I get at least 4 feet off the ground.

The only problem is, without the momentum, I'm unable to do these flips (except the handspring) from a standstill. I'll try to use the tips given here, but if anybody is wondering, perhaps momentum from tumbling can get you your flips first.

Another thing, I got my flash kick (where the legs are apart) BEFORE my back tuck and even still my back tuck isn't very light on the landing like my flash kick. It seems unorthodox that I'd get the flash kick before the back flip... I guess I have to learn to tuck more.

Ok, here's what you do Keith. Throw your arms straight up, not back. Jump straight up and tuck at the top. Sort of like you're going to kick someone behind you. If you have access to a trampoline, try that. Get it on the trampoline by bouncing then flipping. Once you master that, do it from a stand still. Once you do that, try it from a mat and once you get that, do it on grass. The most important thing is not to let yourself freak out. I promise you that if you screw up somehow, it will not hurt hardly at all if you follow through anyway. Just decide you're going to do it and then, without a doubt in your mind, do it. You CAN do it!

Tips on How to do a Back Tuck
I've been reading around on different websites, and I've figured out some tips. After I write these down, I'm going to go try it and see if it works. I'll tell you the results. Here are the tips:
When you first start, try jumping high as you can. Just think of something really horrible (Like Osama BinLaden, rest in hell you son of a@#$%^) Then just jump as high as you can, swinging your arms straight up, and locking them. To jump high, you should start in a slightly bent position, with either arm in sync with either knee. Try starting in this position and then going up into a straight stand like twenty times. You'll build muscle and power the more times you do it. Then you should try jumping like this, twenty times every day, getting angry, and getting high in the air. Then, after you get as high in the air as you think you going to go, start from a elevated position. But don't make it TOO HIGH or when you make the rotation you'll fall on your rear. You should also have someone right next to the SHORT chair, or whateva you're going to use, so that they can help you out if things get ugly, or just push your knees over if you get to close to the ground. You should first try this in sand, with the SHORT Chair (* make sure that the chair like doesn't have such a back that it'll interfere with your feet when you jump). You'll probably land on your knees, which won't hurt, because soft sand is like pillows, or you'll land on your butt which means you need to get a shorter chair, or just start from a standing. And don't over rotate. Once you've succeeded from a chair, try something flat on the ground so that the sand won't interfere with you jumping capabilities. Jump hard, think of the bastard Sedam Hussein, and just pull your knees over. Remember, have someone next to you to push your feet over. Once you can do that without a spotter, and land lightly and comfortably, try it on sand with a spotter. Once you can do that without a spotter, you can do it anywhere, cause sand is hard to jump from.
To make it more impressive, try jumping like uphill so that you'll get more power when you're on flat land.
*MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT WHEN THEY HAVE A CHAIR TO JUMP FROM, THEY DON'T NEED TO TRY AS HARD. BELIEVE ME, YOU DO! TRY YOUR HARDEST!

If you can do it on two mattresses, if will definetly be easier on solid ground....IF you can get over the fear factor. I would still suggest trying it on mats or grass first, before you try it on a tile floor or wood floor

hey. i've never done a backflip in air before...i want to learn how to do 'em on solid ground so I could do them while bodyboarding...anyway, i've done 'em a bajillion times in my head (it helps a bunch, believe me...when you're not flippin' do 'em in your head and you'll get good) but my issue is that i don't think i'll be able to land flat on my feet. i see myslef landing still in tuck and hitting toes first.

so what if i do one and totally screw the landing??? any ideas on how NOT to die if you are going to have to bail in the flip? i've done front flips on mats and stuff but backs seem like they should be easier to do becuase you don't have to rotate as far to land it. any ideas???

Okay. I still currently have the fear of falling backwards. I'm also afraid of doing a backhand spring because I fear that my wrists or elbows would snap on impact when landing on the ground. Is there anywhere I can go, any ppl I can find to help overcome this crappy fear..? I've had spotters but ya know? Once you panic, you're scared stiff and your reaction is delayed... First of all JUST DO IT! But if you afraid to go back, then do backflips on a tramponline or on tall grass. Believe me everyone out there that is afraid to land on your head, it doesn't even hurt. But always try to put your hands infront of your head so you don't land on your head.

Pump your self up with anger before you do it...believe it helps.

It doesn't matter how old you are, you can pull off any move. The best advice that I can give is that if you want to learn any move whether its breakdancing or gymastics or karate, etc...buy a trampoline or use your relatives trampoline. A trampoline is 99% safe, so buy a trampoline and have fun with life because its all about having fun.

ok guys, i used to be able to do it, then i broke my wrist doing something else, and then i got scared of doing backflips and handsprings. I used this incredibly simple routine which i made up to help me overcome my fear, and i can do it once again. DON'T THINK ABOUT LANDING ON YOUR HEAD. This is exactly what divides the boys and men. do you guys ever watch cKy? They really have no fear of landing on their heads, which is exactly why they can pull of the tricks. If it helps, wear a helmet when doing this, or do it on a soft surface like a matress which is what i did when i first started out. Also, it may help if you do a running roundoff then backflip, coz then you only really have to jump upwards coz the momentum and speed carries you backwards.

Ok, here's my problem... I can do a standing back tuck and a standing flic- and although neither are particularly awe inspiring, they come out ok. But I cant, for the life of me, chain them to the end of a roundoff. I think my technique would improve with the roundoffs momentum, but I keep on bailing. Roundoffs on their own are good, but if I try to link a flic or something I just seem to lose all my momentum. Any ideas?

Damn didnt get the last part in. When doing a backhandspring your back is arched and in a backflip you tuck in so learning handspring first or the other way round will not help you get both.

I'm a beginner at this. I can do splits, real high kicks, and I'm a good jumper(Track). And my friends one day said to me, "Now all ya need is a backflip for good measure and you'll have it going Girl!" And I have been thinking about it!

Info: I'm 5'3" weigh 125 and I'm 16.

Remember I'm a beginner! I don't know what you call certain moves or anything. I need a basic step to step guide, excercises to build more muscle, best ways to practice. I'm not afraid.

What if you don't have a trampaline? But I DO KNOW I will be getting one in the future. Is this the best way to build confidence? What if you already have confidence?
I have been reading all the reviews on everybody elses' comments to see if that would help me, but in certain places their too vague in places to help.

trampoline is of course the easiest, learn to do it w/o jumping before you do it. then learn to do them in rows.

The technique is just to do an AU ("star" in the olympic gimnastic) and do a jump and a pass of legs right over your head. You'd better have just a good impulse. if u've got it, it's done.

This move is insanely hard. If anybody thinks they can just 'pull it off' on the ground without a spotter or anything they should get their heads checked. Wanna know why your body is afraid to do this? Its because it knows your flip WILL NOT WORK. Trampolines are easy though, just get somebody to hold you shirt around the collar with one hand and grab you behind the knees and help flip you over with the other. Unfortunately the ground is not as forgiving. Using that same technique with someone who doesn't know could be disastrous. Trust me, I've just learned how and it is harder then i ever imagined. Yes, I can land on my feet, but ive been doing these on the trampoline for a couple years and i learned on something that wasn't as hard as ground but not as easy as a trampoline and then just transitioned. Im lucky i didnt kill myself. So, unless you have access to some seriously good mats and someone who will help you and knows what hes doing, GO TO A GYM, if you dont you will probably regret it!!

I learned to do the back handspring when I was 10, now I'm 15 and can only do no-handed backflips now.
I learned to flip on a grass hill. One that is pretty steep. Once you find a hill you do this:
- Run up the hill
- Stop suddenly and jump as high as possible and flip backwards
- Make sure you put your hands over your head, in case you... well you know.

I'm 15 years and I can get about 5 good step on the Wall Run (or whatever you call it)to do that, you step on the wall at about your stomach and step lightly on the wall the rest of the way... oh yeah, and catch yourself at the end.
To do the Backflip off the Wall, you pickup a little bit of speed and put your dominate foot on the wall (at about your waist). Almost simultainesly , you jump backwards and bring your other foot up and over in a wide arch, the arch comming first(your momentem from your second leg is what complete the flip).

sugar-backflips are not a normal move for the body. Personally I don't know how anybody could do one on the ground without breaking their neck on their first try without a spotter. All you need is your dad or someone to hold onto your shirt, do three bounces, count up from one on each and do the flip after the 3rd. It WILL work, I did this and I learned a back tuck on my own in 5 minutes (on a trampoline). In fact, I can do one on the ground now, though it was 2 years before i could do one on the ground. Anyway back to the spotting. You have to make sure your spotter will be at your side holding onto your collar so they can have more 'anchorage' to get you over. Don't ask why, just have them do it. Then when you are going into the flip you want to throw your arms back, and don't jump your highest because it could be hard for your spotter to flip you. Like I said, small jumps, try jumping more so on your toes. Either way, launching (where someone aids your jump) should NOT happen. Now, as I said you'll want to throw your arms back for added momentum and bring your legs to your chest while your spotter grabs behind your knees and forcefully flips you over. Between the two of you you should make it to your stomach at least, I got to my knees. The feeling will be wierd but if you do it a couple of times in a row soon your spotter pretty much won't be doing anything. Then, for theirs and your sake have them stand at the edge of the trampoline when you've got it down and just do it. By then, after a few times you will have got it down pat. Keep on doing these on your own after and you'll just naturally use your stomach muscles more and soon be able to do them without hands, layout, etc. If anybody wants to learn a full twist during one you can ask too, I've mastered those as well. Right now though, I've g2g. Good luck, and don't use this for on solid ground, I don't know if it will work.

Standing Back Tucks Should Be Learned In A Gym

First of all, you should never ben your head beck for momentum! Second of all this is tough, definitely a move that needs the utmost attention, safety awareness and skill! Dont try to attempt this again by yourself because simply being able to land a back tuck on your feet on a trampoline is not enough for the ground. On a tramp you should almost be able to fall backwards and complete the flip!!! That's the amount of rotation were talking about!! Also, the jump must be high and explosive. For you, I'd suggest TONS of these. Get these as high as possible. After maybe (hopefully for you) at least 3 weeks of this you will be able to jump higher and be more consistent. When working on explosive jumping do it the same way every time and make sure you swing with your arms and everything, just like setting for a tuck! What your doing wrong is the height, probably technique and definitely not enough flip. On the trampoline work as many standing tucks as possible. Work them exploding as high as you can, and using VERY little jump. You will be close to the flip on the ground when you feel yourself falling and close to the ground when your about halfway through the flip, which is why they are scary and difficult. Leg muscle, stomach muscle and know how is all that will save you. Unfortunately, I would never reccomend anyone ever attempt this without being completely sure they can make it on the ground, you have to know you can do it so when you do it nothing holds your jump back. The fact you havent killed yourself yet amazes me. LEARN THIS IN A GYM!!!!!! I know this probably wont stop some of you but whatever you do make sure you have a good mat on you that is inclined! (on a hill) You wont fall backwards, it will be enough if u can land on your feet. This move is too scary to try alone. BE CAREFUL AND PLEASE LEARN THIS IN A GYM!

Yo, I have, actually, had the same problem as mike, but the best way to get over it is just to get your mind off of the flip....also, picture an imaginary "rubber band" that is holding your legs and arms together, when you throw your arms back, your legs should go back as well. The ONLY way to get over the fear is just to do it. I always just think about something else (girls) haha, and then I do it..Another thing is, do NOT panic in mid air. This is a very common problem. People have it going good, then then start THINKING about it again and they fumble. Your body needs to be trained to go backwards, and needs to get used to the backward rotation. My advice is to get a spotter or 2, and have them spot you on a mat.

Dont get discouraged. This technique takes time/patience. If your impatient, then you will get discouraged, and when your discouraged, you dont feel like you can achieve anything. If you keep thinking that you cant do it, you never will. Backflips are about 90% mental. The other 10% is just jumping and going backwards...so keep trying, eventually, you will be able to do one.

Hey, it sounds to me like your not rotating fast enough. Try this:

When your jumping, pick a spot straight ahead of you to stare at. Then, jump up and grab your knees. Repeat this about 3 times to warm up. Then, when your ready, jump straight up and as hard as you can, thrust your knees over your head. Keep your eyes open so that you can judge your landing. This should help.

hello, i can frontflip off of my bed but i can't do them on the ground. tell me what is wrong. when i do them off of my bed which is about 2 feet high, i cant flip fast enough and under flip or i flip to fast and over flip. i under fliped off of my friends moms bed which is twice the height of mine and came down on my tail bone. i thought that i had broken it but it was just bruised really bad and i could not walk for a few days (6 days). please get back to me with some tips for me and the frontflips, backflips, and hand springs. thanks.

Aye juantayye, the secret is to tuck-in your body when you are as high up in the air as possible!

Example: Run into the front flip and then take a hop step into the trick. Jump off both feet into the air facing forward. Throw your legs into your chest and throw your arms in a top to bottom fashion. Once your airborne, tuck your arms around the knees and make a 360 degree flip forward in the air. Once you've completed the 360, break open from the curled position and land on both your feet at the same time.

All right, now I just came in from practicing my backtuck/flip and I think I've got it now (just learned it this weekend). Anyhow I do have one problem. I've watched a lot of other people do this trick and when they make the initial jump, they bend their knees and it looks as though they're sitting in a chair. Anyhow, for some reason I can't do this. Like if I try that then I get scared all of the sudden and I won't jump. But when I squat REALLY low down (practically touching the ground) then I can jump up and backtuck. Only problem is that I end up landing in a squatting position and this doesn't permit me to do the backflip after doing a setup for a roundoff. Anyone have tips as to how to jump from that "sitting in chair" position?

I have been practicing backflips for about 5 or 6 days for about a hour each day I use a matrace for safety purposes. I can land them straight up sometimes , but I usually land in a squat position. My advice is to just jump up as high as you can while swinging your arms up. Fear is a natural feeling. you just have to grit your teeth together and do it. and if you land at a bad angle, wait until you feel better, and the do it again. I landed on my nose while doing a wall flip (I have sorta big nose) and it started bleeding, but I did it again and again and again (and whenever)And I am only 14. So just keep trying and wait until you master it

I just have one piece of advice. A backflip is like 90% mental and 10% flipping over. And looking at tips and advice online is not going to help you. Pictures can demonstrate, but you have to get offline and go and actually do it. not once or twice. over and over and over again. The one peice of advise i have that they dont give is that if your turning sideways our of fear so you dont land on your head.. when you throw your arms up, tuck your legs through the gap between your arms, when they have gone through you put your arms back down and the worst thing that can happen then is you land on your hands and knees. no way of landing on your head.

ummm NEVER is landing on ur head ok!!! Trained gymnasts have sometimes been known to do back headsprings-self explanatory really and really funny and amazing to watch-but only through VERY spotted training and such. Plus, I fell that their size and weight might contribute to that sick and amazing ability. To put it short, people who have landed on their head HAVE DIED been PARALYZED recieved CONCUSSIONS and gotten seriously hurt. Landing on your head is NOT a good thing and is a reason you pretty much MUST learn this in a gym. A back flip is NOT 90% mental and 10% flip-I find the flipping to be quite hard too. I'd say its 50/50. As scared as you are, thats really how difficult it is. I CAN do back flips, I CAN do back handspring back flips, and let me tell you, technique must be very good to do these. Im not saying its impossible to learn without a gym, I did (very slowly and progressing from trampoline to inflatable castle and it took a LONG time. I would also say, my flips and springs dont look that great-I wish I had more technique. I would also like to say they are hard and DEFINITELY dangerous so DONT TRY THEM BY YOURSELF. you WILL NEED a spotter and a gym would be HIGHLY preferable. Please, dont be dumb. These moves are difficult, dangerous and when done wrong potentially deadly even. Believe me, I've seen them go wrong, even IN a gymnastics center, please learn these as safe as possible and if you dont think you can do it without landing on your head, for God sakes dont do it!!!

I have been doing frontflips for years now and can do them on cue on the ground on tramp, off of objects etc. I need help with the backflip. I am not afraid of under rotating and over rotating but just going backwards. I want to learn the backflip on the trampoline and am thinking of putting pillows and soft things underneath. Basically, just have someone stand next to you and spot you, all they need to do is hold on to your shirt and grab your legs (under the knees, you know, where your knees bend cuz its the perfect spot to give as much momentum to the flipper as possible). DONT jump high, very small jumps so NO launching will occur (when someone helps someone else jump higher). Then just Throw your arms back and do the back flip, without too much jump, you want your spotter to easily reach behind ur knees the whole way through. Within 5 minutes, I did a back flip by myself, and my friend accomplished the same thing in the same time. I wouldnt advise this on solid ground strictly because Ive never tried it and I wouldnt know the advice to give. A word of advice, when you are trying to do a back tuck, TRY, it doesnt help to let the spotter do it for you. Really try to flip, although the first couple times it might be a bit wierd and hard, with the spotters help you should land one at least by your 10th attempt if you are doing this right AND using effort yourself. The arms really help generate momentum, though when you get better you will naturally learn not to use them cuz then they will give to much momentum. When your on the trampoline, dont worry too much about hurting yourself, thats why I just wouldnt reccomend this on the ground, cuz on the ground you CAN hurt yourself. Good luck!!

I am not telling you this to make you feel better. a backflip is sheer guts. as I have said before, a backflip is 90% mental and 10% flipping over. if you have been reading all these tips from this WHOLE page, you should have enough courage. iu strongly recommend that you have a spotter. they will help you out and if you DO break your neck, they will call 9-1-1. This move is completely a mental challenge, this is what makes it so difficult to learn. Many people have a fear of landing on their head and neck or breaking their collar bone. This fear can dramatically effect the execution of the move. WHen i was learning this i would get scared in the middle of the flip and come crashing down. Anybody trying to learn this move, remember not to think about getting hurt, try to visualize as best you can how the move is going to work before trying it. While doing this attempt to try to clear the fear out of your mind; practice on somthing safe like a tramp and good luck

Yes, it is 85% mental. Everyone focuses on landing on their head, and in mid air, freak out. I had that problem. What I did was stand on the trampoline, and without getting any bounce, just jumped straight up and did a backflip. I have said this before, your body needs to be trained to go backwards. Once your body gets used to the rotation, and you realize that it is ok to go backward. Do this for about a week, over and over and over each day until you can think about doing it off of the ground without getting that nervous feeling. Then you will execute it with no problem. Just don't think about the trick, clear your mind and just go for it. It is best, when doing it off of the ground, to have a spotter. Good luck.

You must start with a low speed from the ground, when approaching the wall (about 4 feet away)then you can start to RUN LIKE HELL!!!....eeh ok...well...umm....Yes when you are on the wall start to press HARD with your feet's, you must also lean against the wall. when ure about to land lean against the ground. this would give you an aerial. Throw your arns srtight up into the air. Your arms should do a half cirdle srtight into the air. Jump srtight up. When You get to the highest point in your jump tuck. Do not tuck to early or you will not make it around! You still should be tucked while upside down. When you are upside down you can put your hands on the back of your legs if you want so that you do not tuch the ground whith your hands when you land. When you start a back look to the sky at first, then look ar the ground before you land. That will help you from getting disoriented while you flip. NOTE!!!! This move feels totally different from a backhandspring. Do not start this move like a badk handspring, becauase you will land on your head. JUMP STRAIGHT UP!!! I learned that the hard way. haha

I believe the best way to learn a backflip, backhandspring, gainer, or backflip off the wall is by using a spotter. A spotter is someone who helps you flip at first untill you do not need their assistance anymore. Using a spotter helps reduce fear and helps you get your form down before doing a flip on yout own. Anyway this is how someone should spot you while you try your flip. If the person is right handed they should stand on the left side of you and they should stand to your right if they are lift handed. They should put their strong hand on the middle of your back. when you jump and start your flip they will help you by throwing your lower half around. After a while you will not need a spotter anymore and you will be flippin all over the place without thinking anything of it. Oh there is one difference when you use a spotter for a backflip off the wall. You should put your arm over the spotter's sholders while trying it, but tht is only for the backflip off the wall. I can do a backflip fine and all...only problem is, is that when I do it I go straight up and down. I don't go backwards during my backflip. This has been a major problem since anytime I try to backflip like off the last two steps of stairs (or something similar) I end up landing on like the edge of the step and then end up falling down. You are not suposta go too far backwards on a backflip. anyway if you are doin it off of steps jump backwards like a back handspring and then tuck. I have done it before off of rolled up matts it is not to hard.

yo have ya friend put his hand on ya back like you said, bu after you jump up to do your backtuck have ya friend take his other hand and help flip ya lower half of ya body to make sure you get around. After a while you will not need him to help flip ya over. after a while you won't need his hand on ya back. oh i am trainin for a comp on hardwood and landin without shoes hurts a bit.

i can do standing backflips and back handsprings on the tramp no problem at all. I can do a standing frontflip on the ground and land on my feet, but im not sure if i can do a standing backflip. (im about 6' tall, 160lbs, and my vertical is somewhere around 25"-30"). i can do a backflip if i stack something up like 12 inches and jump off that, but im kind of afraid to try it on the ground. Hey everyone,
A few months ago i finally learn ed standing back tucks and could finally land abo ut five in a row. I had been doing them off walls and on tramps for a few months before that as well. The thing is though, i could only do back tucks for a da y (i spent about an hour that day going all deep and meaningful on the "worst thing that could happen " bit). I am much more scared now than i was back the n to do a standing back tuck, because i have landed on my head and it isn't very pleasant, hehe. I can s till do back flips and layouts off walls and on tra mps but I've been too scared to do them on flat grou nd since. I know i should get a spotter but I've try ed it before and axed myself with them. What do you guys reckon? Thanks a lot

ok help! I can do a handstand and am really flexib le too, but I cant seem to do a back or front flip. I c ant even do a back bend into a bridge :P The only way I can do I flip is if I start in a bridge and then push myself over with the help of a wall! Frontflip is much eaiser and the backflip. I can not get the height to land perfect...I always tip forward or i just land on my knees..When i do front flip i land perfect..but the different is when i d o the frontflip i run a little bit....but run and t ry a backflip....I dont think so...!...=)

Hello. I am a female elite competitive gymnast, so any style of backtuck I do will probably be slig htly different from the way you trained yourself . However, you can easily train yourself to do thi s skill, it is probably the easiest out there. I le arned this when I was about 7 years old. You can too .

Most of the comments on here were basically correct: Jump HIGH as you can, and at the peak of yo ur jump, TUCK. Always remember to pull your knees UP to your chest, NEVER your chest down to your kne es. This is a common mistake, and will cause you to under-rotate and fall on your head. Do not be afra id of falling on your head. I have done it countles s times, and the only time I've really had problem s was when I fell similarly off the beam out of my do uble full dismount. Anyway:

To comment on so me of the, frankly, disgusting comments made on t his thread. I find it wonderful that all you self- trained tricksters can come out and do your backf lips, this is great. However, you really have a bi g ego if you males simply have to brag about it all t he time. We do not need to hear your shit about "Oh, I can do this skill, I can even do it on concrete, an d guess what, I don't even fall, I'm so good at this skill, blablalovelyfuckingbla..." we do not ne ed this. We do not GIVE a fuck whether or not you are able to do a backflip. man all this shit loo ks confusing but here are a c oupla tips that might help....as your on yo ur bac k and about to roll int o your stabbing arm, ( count er clockwise) focus o n kicking your right l eg dow n, and then back. as yo u roll up on to your sta bbing arm, you should then c oncentrate on kickin g your left leg under you and keeping tha right leg as hig h up in tha air as possi ble. remember, when d oing t his you shouldnt reac h for tha ground with y our st abbing arm as you roll into it, you should ke ep it a t your body and let it g et to tha ground itsel f. to g et up on that stabbing arm, its more about us ing th a swing of your right l eg pulling back and yo ur lef t leg going above than what your upper body i s doin g. concentrate on tha legs, tha rest of your body d oesnt do much. also do nt bend your legs, try to kee p em straight and apar t. going up on tha stab bing a rm gives you tha air fo r your left leg to go un der wi thout hittin tha grou nd. one of tha things t hat he lped me get it tha quic kest was tha way i lear ned to start off. rather tha n going from my back, i alway s start from the posit ion of being on my stab bing a rm. i put my weight on m y left arm like in a han dglid e, and have my legs out straight, left foot t ouchi ng tha ground, right l eg jus hangs out there ...i k ick my right leg up and left under at tha same time, and assuming im kicki ng correctly, this al lows m e to drop in on my left a rm....jus like when y our ac tually doing tha mill . its a better way to st art, c onsidering that you s tart your windmills w ith ba lance, and its easier to learn how to drop in this w ay, cause you can go ah ead and learn that wit hout h aving to make it up on y our stabbing arm from your u pper back.

First you should lie o n the ground(I prefer on my r ight side), not flat b ut not sitting up eith er, on your elbow is I deal un til you can transist f rom ot her moves. You take yo u right leg and swing i t cloc kwise, then when your right leg is halfway a round you let your left leg f ollow. The leg crosso ng mot ion should start your spinning movement. After pract icing one mill a couple hund red times, you try to s tart t o land in the same posi tion that you started .

F OR CLOCKWISE MILLS
An easy way to start wi ndmil ls is to sit down on the floor with yo ur legs s treig ht in front of you and y our right arm sort of b ehind you on yur right side. Swing your le ft leg to your r ight side and as you do this, roll of your rig ht arm down to your back and t uck your left arm in to your b ody. While your doing this, your le ft leg sh ould a lso swing in a circula r motion in fr ont of yo ur bod y. Right when you roll onto your bac k, swing your r ight leg to your right then up and ar ound, tu ck in y our right arm, and rol l onto your le ft shoul der bl ade. From here both yo ur arms shoul d should be tuc ked into your body and your whole bo dy shoul d be in the air (except for yo ur left shoul der blad e and m aybe your head). From here swing yo ur left l eg und er your right leg and p lace your tuc ked arms on the floor so only your for earms and may be your h ead is /are touching the flo or. at this po int your body s hould look almost lik e a triangle t o the flo or. It's all based on ur sho ulder.Do nt use ur low er back r ur leg will hi t the g round.
Ur rigth leg is not the only leg doi n the k ickin... ........wh en u collapse into ur w indmi ll kik off real hard wi th ur right leg toward ur lef t n then th e left leg wo uld follow......the n jerk it back to ward the rig ht n toward the ground then k ik off wit ur left towa rd ur face n u'll autom atica lly flip o ver on to ur s tomach.......in ord er to l ink..... .in my case j ust put both of ur hand over u r chest li ke a genie bu t dont cross it...... leave it straig ht.....ur r ight leg would automa tical ly kik up i n the air aga in. wit both of ur leg i n the a ir n ur rig ht leg off bo ut 3-4 inch off the gro und.. ..then ur left leg wou ld follow...then sta rt the whole thi ng over....

windmil ls isn't that easy..it's simple, but no t easy unl ess you've done things like this a lot. i t asks for patience, since you will hurt yourself many time s before succeeding...I'd say startin g off is do ne the easiest way like this:

sit on the groun d with your legs spread (this is for coun ter-cloc kwise). lean to your left, and kick your right leg straight over your left one, then do a ci rcular mo tion when it's bent much over your left l eg, so tha t you'll then kick it back, but higher; w hen you st art kicking it back over your left leg, k ick it up t oo and when your legs are in a good v-shap e (over 90 or 100 degrees), bring your left leg the same trac k your right went - because you were bent at the beg inning, now go almost to your left side, so that af ter your right leg is back on the right si de again a nd your left one is starting to go, you wi ll roll on your _upper_ back (shoulders). keep yo ur legs op en - this is important - and swing them ar ound, so t hat your right leg goes lower, and goes t o your lef t side almost touching the floor (you tu rn your bo dy with your legs, or a bit before your le gs), the l eft leg following the right. keep your h ands on yo ur chest, so that you can with your wrist s move you r hands towrads the floor and push a bit. roll to yo ur stomach, and with your hands under yo ur chest, push yourself around - KEEP LEGS APART s o they hel p you move. when you come to your left sid e again (f rom your stomach), and your hands rise f rom the fl oor, kick with your legs so you'll get a c ircular m otion.

after you get this a few roun ds, say th ree, stand up. start practising a new (f aster) st art-off: from the stand-up position be nd down a l ittle, "jump" on your hands, pulling yo ur other h and to your body so that you fall on your s holder, a nd SOFTLY ROLL to your UPPER BACK - keepi ng the LEG S APART. this gives you a lot of speed... but will t ake time to learn, too.

after this, you can ac hieve baby-mills from the same stand-u p positio n. but, instead of keeping the legs stra ight and a part, keep them apart, bend from knees a nd put you r ankles across each other so that the le gs KEEP TO EACH OTHER AND WILL NOT OPEN. this is imp ortant to keep the motion...cross your arms befo re you, an d roll VERY HIGH ON YOUR UPPER BACK - when you're on your back, kick a bit with your legs so yo u get the m omentum to push you around to your shoul ders and a round...this might hurt in the beginni ng, to you r shoulders..

Actuall y thats not true. A 90 is a spin on one o f your hands w hile u are in a handstand position. A handspin is a spin on your hand while you are in the turtle/floa t position. A handspin is much easie r to do than a 9 0.

man all this shit loo ks c onfusing but here are a c oupla tips that might hel p....as your on your bac k and about to roll int o yo ur stabbing arm, (count er clockwise) focus o n ki cking your right leg dow n, and then back. as yo u ro ll up on to your stabbing arm, you should then c onc entrate on kicking your left leg under you and kee ping tha right leg as hig h up in tha air as possi ble . remember, when doing t his you shouldnt reac h fo r tha ground with your st abbing arm as you roll int o it, you should keep it a t your body and let it g et t o tha ground itself. to g et up on that stabbing arm , its more about using th a swing of your right l eg p ulling back and your lef t leg going above than wha t your upper body is doin g. concentrate on tha leg s, tha rest of your body d oesnt do much. also do nt b end your legs, try to kee p em straight and apar t. g oing up on tha stabbing a rm gives you tha air fo r yo ur left leg to go under wi thout hittin tha grou nd. one of tha things that he lped me get it tha quic kes t was tha way i learned to start off. rather tha n go ing from my back, i alway s start from the posit ion of being on my stabbing a rm. i put my weight on m y le ft arm like in a handglid e, and have my legs out str aight, left foot touchi ng tha ground, right l eg j us hangs out there...i k ick my right leg up and lef t under at tha same time, and assuming im kicki ng c orrectly, this allows m e to drop in on my left a rm. ...jus like when your ac tually doing tha mill . it s a better way to start, c onsidering that you s tar t your windmills with ba lance, and its easier to l earn how to drop in this w ay, cause you can go ah ead and learn that without h aving to make it up on y our stabbing arm from your u pper back.

I am a master BBOY title hol der and what you guys are talking about is alri ght if you can already do mos t advanced moves. Her e's how I teach my students. First you should lie o n th e ground(I prefer on my r ight side), not flat b ut n ot sitting up either, on your elbow is I deal un til you can transist from ot her moves. You take yo u ri ght leg and swing it cloc kwise, then when your rig ht leg is halfway around you let your left leg f oll ow. The leg crossong mot ion should start your spi nning movement. At this point you want to twis t yo ur sholders clockwise a nd land in a pushup pos iti on.
After practicing one mill a couple hund red times, you try to start t o land in the same posi tio n that you started.
Th en after you can do a co upl e you trie to land in a bab y freeze after one mil l(w ith your hands about 3 in ches apart and you elb ows just above your stomach e. From there you can d o an other clean windmill an d

For people tha t keep hitting their h ips /knees/feet on the grou nd while you're tryin g to mill-put your head on th e ground. when you're on y our back make a consciou s effort to put your he ad t o the ground and when you r up on your front poin t yo ur forehead toward the g round (contact optio nal )

sit on the ground with your legs spread (this is for coun ter-clockwise). lean to your left, and k ick your right leg straight over your left one, th en do a ci rcular motion when it's bent much over yo ur left l eg, so that you'll then kick it back, but h igher; w hen you start kicking it back over your le ft leg, k ick it up too and when your legs are in a goo d v-shap e (over 90 or 100 degrees), bring your lef t leg the same track your right went - because you w ere bent at the beginning, now go almost to your le ft side, so that after your right leg is back on the right si de again and your left one is starting to g o, you wi ll roll on your _upper_ back (shoulders) . keep yo ur legs open - this is important - and swin g them ar ound, so that your right leg goes lower, a nd goes t o your left side almost touching the floo r (you tu rn your body with your legs, or a bit befor e your le gs), the left leg following the right. ke ep your h ands on your chest, so that you can with yo ur wrist s move your hands towrads the floor and pu sh a bit. roll to your stomach, and with your hands under yo ur chest, push yourself around - KEEP LEG S APART s o they help you move. when you come to your left sid e again (from your stomach), and your han ds rise f rom the floor, kick with your legs so you' ll get a c ircular motion.

after you get this a few roun ds, say three, stand up. start practisin g a new (f aster) start-off: from the stand-up pos ition be nd down a little, "jump" on your hands, pu lling yo ur other hand to your body so that you fall on your s holder, and SOFTLY ROLL to your UPPER BAC K - keepi ng the LEGS APART. this gives you a lot of s peed... but will take time to learn, too.

aft er this, you can achieve baby-mills from the same stand-u p position. but, instead of keeping the l egs stra ight and apart, keep them apart, bend fro m knees a nd put your ankles across each other so th at the le gs KEEP TO EACH OTHER AND WILL NOT OPEN. th is is imp ortant to keep the motion...cross your a rms befo re you, and roll VERY HIGH ON YOUR UPPER BA CK - when you're on your back, kick a bit with your l egs so yo u get the momentum to push you around to yo ur shoul ders and around...this might hurt in the beginni ng, to your shoulders..

Actuall y thats not true. A 90 is a spin on one of your hands w hile u are in a hand stand position. A handspin is a spin on your hand w hile you are in the turtle/floa t position. A hand spin is much easier to do than a 9 0.
