Heys wise people
by crystal falcon on 2002-10-09
OKAY geniuses, I know WHAT i'm supposed to do, I just can't get my body to cooperate. I'm really tall, Like 5/7" tall so I haven't mastered controling all the extra skin and bone.
I stuggle on everything from forms to kicks. I only joined my institute a month ago so i'll probably learn how to, and get used to it soon enough,my instructor says I have a gift for the martial arts, I'm not seeing It. So if anyone has any Ideas on how to help me remember my forms or with the kicks pleeeeeeese help.

Mostly help with Cresant Kick. Oh how do you guys remember you forms.

can you like clarify on the description of the Crescent kick? cuz i'm like confused.

everyone's instructor says that they have a gift for the martial arts because the instructors want money.

help with kicks
by Anonymous on 2002-12-16
I've only been doing karate for like 3 months or so - twice a week. My meager advice from one beginner to another is this: practice with a bag. Buy yourself a bag for home (you can get free-standing aerobic punching bags for $99) and use it. Punching and kicking thin air is ok for stuff you know, but I find it SOOO much harder to practice a kick I have trouble with unless I have something to make contact with. Just a thought.

I just found a cool site that shows step by step moves clearly... http://www.karateplanet.com/all_pages/members/pages/25.asp -- check it out.

i was passing by looking at how martial arts/fighting styles in general affect breaking. but thats not what i came to say: i agree in that fighting schools have been tainted by industry. Anyone with the money can learn something. Creed or no creed, people can still ignore them. thanks for letting me do rant philosophically.

you should try doing kicks when your 6 foot like me!

crescent kick
by Anonymous on 2003-03-15
I'm 6'2", it jus takes practice, height is an excuse that u can blame, but wouldn't u jus rather get on and do it!

bags
by Anonymous on 2003-03-15
i disagree with using the bags for practicing the kicks, you should be able to do the kick correctly without the bag before you use the bag, you'll have better control, and if you miss the bag/ board/ person, your recovery will also be as you practiced and not a knew thing that'll bring you off balance

crescent kick
by Anonymous on 2003-05-19
A crescent kick is aimed at hitting the opponent on top of the collar bone with the heel of the foot. You make a crescent with the shape of your kick. You have to have good flexibility as well as speed and not telegraphing the move. To do this, Practice buddy stretching (partner stretching) and get thoroughly warmed up using kick stretches. Then kick high enough to go over opponents head and land on collar bone area. This is more of an advanced move in the begginer level. This should be learned after mastering side kick, front kick ,etc.

never hit the neck, just hit lower or higher 'cause I find this kick is too strong to hit such vital points, at least when I use it
by age_of_asians on 2003-06-21
By the way, follow a 360 with punches, since a guard while doing that kick is useless. But don't worry, this kick is easy to execute. Do it with strenght and speed, and then use it to do combos, 'cause I find it the best move to use in a combo. By the way, 360 is the strongest kick there is, and there can only be kicks AS strong, none are stronger.

Cresent kick

These are pretty cool to do...but for me not so useful in sparring.

360
by Anonymous on 2003-09-26
actually, in a true fight situation, unless you have the speed of a running leopard, you should go with a simple side-kick to the solar-plexus.
One hit to the solar plexus can effectively neutralize one enemy. In fact, one strong kick to the Solar-Plexus can kill.
In a fight situation, especially one with multiple combatants, you don't score by hitting them alot or well. The most important thing is to neutralize. A single punch or kick that completely break one combatant is the best. A single kick to the groin can end a fight.

flashy moves
by Anonymous on 2003-10-03
remember a punch is faster than a kick so save the flashy moves for when you're absolutely possitive they wont be interupted ie when your opponent is confused or low on energy.

Splits
by Fizzy on 2003-10-31
Do you have to be able to do the splits to get a high kick?

Video Clips of These Tricks
by Terry Benoit on 2003-11-23
For every entry that is put on to this web site, I would think it is alot easier to understand if you add a MPEG video clip of the techniques including the description of the trick. It is not very hard to do!
