Just so you know, the handstand is called Bananeira in capoeira, after the banana tree. A "handstand pirouette" is known as a piao de mao. (Basically, spin on the hand.)
Try and learn a handstand against a wall first. After a while you will get the hang of it, then you can try it without a wall. Try first by putting both hands on the floor, then kick both legs up, but don't kick too hard or you will flip over. Just kick hard enough and comfortable enough not to go over on your back. If you feel that you are going to flip over just turn your body like a cartwheel. Once you get it then you could start doing it from a stand up position. A good way to practice that is a cartwheel or a couple of inches away from a wall. Just keep practicing it and it will come naturally.
Is there anyone here who have some good tips for holding the balance in a long time in a handstand?? I can get up, but i fall down after...about 5 seconds!
And tons of practice. If you practice more and more, you'll get the sense of balance and you'll be able to stand up on it better. It's also better to start of in a pool first. Than go to the wall. Than on ground. Its easy once you get the hang of it. :)
i'm pretty good at the handstand. This is might not help all that much if you aren't scared but if you are here's how I learned it. First you have to be able to do the most flexed cartwheel you can. Then you start of as if you're going to do a cartwheel but face forward. don't try to push to hard. try to keep all your weight straight down in a line to your arms. it isnt as hard to balance after you can do that. just practice it alot. i think the most important part of doing a handstand is how hard you kick off. try to do it fairly hard but not so much that you turn over
how far apart do u keep ur hands when busting a handstand...and what direction should da fingers face??...forward..or sideways?...i feel more comfortable sideways...and i keep a better balance with legs bent....and back arched....is dat a correct way?
I do handstands in yoga. The finger alignment is very important. The middle fingers should point directly ahead, & the rest of the fingers spread evenly. This is very important, as the hands will dictate all the other alignment of the muscles of the body. The hands should be about shoulder width apart. The most important thing to remember is to constantly 'lift out of the shoulders', & to constantly stretch the whole body up when in the handstand. Use the wall to begin with, time yourself with a stopwatch, increase the length of time weekly. After, a few thousand times of doing this practice daily, the balance will come naturally!!! Just remember, make sure you are constantly stretching out of the shoulder blades, & stretching upwards at all times when in the handstand. This posture is great for the chest, arm strength, & fantastic for the brain. :) Have fun.....
Well folks exactly one year ago i worked out for only two months not even and i was just as good as bruce lee in his moviess, there is a very big difference in his movies and how he was and trust me i was Not as fast as him in real life but his characters in the movies i was as fast as,, but nothing modivates me anymore to do these exercises can somebody please help me to find out how to get back into things...desperatley pleaplease i am on my kneese begging .....have a good day plese someyon send me some info
To hold your handstand real easy just kick up and push up of your hands as hard as you can so your feet are going towards the sky. Helps if your shoulders are flexibly. Your arms should be way up by your ears and look between your hands. Keep your fingers bent and shift your weight on your hands for balance. Dont have flat hands you will fall easier! For practice try it against a wall but with your stomach facing it. Just crawl up there. I've been doing them for about 3 months i used to suck until i learnt these tips and i practice ALL DAY and i got it pretty good. Good Luck
You all have sweat tips and all, but can you give it to me in steps please? I've been trying to learn to break dance, and most of the moves i want to learn involve a handstand. Please help me!!
I need HELP! I want to execute the backflip and handstand in my routine (fitness show in March 2003) and I don't have anyone to assist I am doing it on my own and want to perfect the above moves so that I can put them in my routine. How long realistically will it take me? I can't afford to go to a gymnastics school. I am stretching everyday and I am determined.
Do handstands in the gym. for 30 mins. a day. Put your palms on the floor and go vertical. Bend your knees so they are actually point forwards or downwards. Doing that you'll gain more balance. If you get too much forward balance just push up with your bended knees. Keep your arms straight. If you are good @ handstands you can start bending them and straighten them again. You can do vertical pushups if you continue with that without the help of a wall. To get the feeling of going vertical just hold a handstand up against the wall - back facing the wall - and just try to go into split (when you are vertical) or move your legs to the right or left to train your hips and arms. Very good for the arms this stuff : )
Always feel confident about doing handstands. Dont fear it, but injuries can occur if you fall down in a wrong way. I got a blue mark on my knees : )
from what i know most of the things you people say are wrong. you shouldent look at ur hands while learning because its a bad habit and it arches your back causing a bad balance. You should be looking forward.
ok i might seem very dumb but i cant do a handstand when i start standing up.. i have it all good if i start crouched and i can hold it pretty good.. but i simply cant do it when i start standing.. i know im suppose to lift one leg at a time but i cant do that.. i always end up jumping on the handstand instead and everything screws up because i lift both legs up and many other problems too.. maybe sombody has a tip or two..
Handstands vary depending on what you want them to do. Use a wall. Put a pillow or a cushion on the floor by the wall- not really for safety, more for psychological reasons. Stand about two feet away from the wall and place your hands on the floor about a foot or so apart on either side of the cushion. Keeping your arms locked straight (very important) kick up with your legs, one before the other. As you practice this try to get your legs higher each time, feeling your body weight on your arms. Once you can kick enough, let your legs touch the wall. Keep your body as straight as possible and look at the opposite wall. Coming down remember to land one foot before the other and keep both the arms and the legs straight (massively important!!!). If you bend either, you're likely to land (?) in an unsightly heap and make one hell of a noise doing so. Once you're okay against a wall, try to get the handstand perfect. By this, I mean push up with your arms through your shoulders, tense your abs, keep your back straight (you'd be amazed how many people don't do this) and keep you legs locked together. Tension is important. After a little while try it without the wall, perhaps with a spotter. The trick to getting handstands is learning how to control your balance- the easiest way to do this is learning how to walk on your hands. If your weight goes over, walk forwards to rebalance. If your weight drops back, then either land it or walk backwards to rebalance. Remember to look at the opposite wall or else you body shape won't be entirely straight and you'll collapse. You can also practice bending your legs at your knees to make your weight go forward so you can try walking. If you're afraid of crashing, turn your body and come down like a cartwheel- legs straight, though!!!- or the more experienced can go over into a bridge, but this is sort of a trick unto itself. Practice is the key, and try different things so you get a range of experience.
When I first started practicing handstands, it was from standing, just like you would do when practicing against a wall.
However, this is not a stable method because you are using momentum rather than strength.
I got a lot better at handstands when I learnt to press into them, using strength and control right form the moment my feet left the ground.
I first learnt to do this by having someone stand behind me and hold onto my hips as I did a standing forward bend, with palms planted firmly on the ground and legs almost together (so you need flexible hamstrings). From there, allow your weight to tip forward (and onto your hands) and keeping your legs straight, lift and seperate them so that your feet descibe a sort of semi-circle, finally coming back together as you complete the momvement into the handstand.
Having someone hold onto your hips will help you learn how to manage your weight, and how to engage your muscles so that you can do it yourself. Next stage is to practice this with your back close to a wall, mainly so you don't get scared about leaning forward too far while lifting your legs up.
When I first started trying to do this it seemed almost impossible, but after I did it a few times with a spotter, I realised it was not nearly as hard as I thought. The strength requirement is not that great, it's more a matter of managing your weight properly, as your legs open; lift; then come back together.
Todate, I practice shifting my weight over onto one arm, but have not yet been able to take the other one off the floor. I would guess that I have about 70-80% weight on one arm, 30-20% on the other.
Is there anyone out there who can balance on one hand? I believe in my ability to do it, but I am only following my own instincts about how to train for it, and there maybe be a better way. I suspect that I am still quite some way away, perhaps a minimum of 6 months, if I were to really focus on it as a goal.
I've been attempting to get a handstand for some time and I am progressing. I realize that it takes deadication and time to obtain it but if anyone could give some pointers or tips to get one faster, it would be appreciated.
here is some advise to you guys that are trying to learn a handstand....
number one:keep your body straight-if it is not straight then you loose all balance and will fall.
number two.... if you can hold it but start to fall (forward) use your hands and also your fingers to push and you will find that you will be able to regain your balance
number three.... look at a point on the ground, in between your hands and keep looking at it-this really helps
****ALSO****
if you practice everyday it is almost impossible to not be able to do it but practice every day
U know what Dane is absoulutely right but besides working on the wall you should also work on your arm muscles to make your arms cabable of holding your weight up on your arms. Trust me I do Gym too.:-) e-mail me if you have any guestions hi-c@streetracing.com
I don't get it. I can do a handstand OK, but after only four seconds my face is blood red. Thing is I've seen people walk around on their hands and their faces look fine. Maybe it's just me, but I was wondering if it's something you get used to, and your face doesn't get so red after awhile. What do yoooou guys think?
Ah...my very first so called "trick." I'm a gymnast, so a handstand is kind of a given. lol...anyways, a lot of people ask about holding this position for a long time, or walking on your hands. This is easy once you get the hang of it, it's mostly about balance. I have hardly read any of the posts here, and they probably all say this, but STAY TIGHT! keep your body straight or you will never be able to balance this trick. :0
I have been wanting to do handstands/handstad pushup's and I have just started 3 days ago, but my problem is all the blood goes to my head, and my eyes are bloodshoot for about a half hour after, my question is, will I get used to this or is my body not for handstands? Thanks for your time.
The problem with blood in the head I've got also, but after a couple of days the problem began to disappear. Just try... and good luck.
I am also doing a bit handstand (just for fun only) ;-) and I began three months ago. Now I can balance it for over 40 seconds but I've got a problem:
I am afraid falling on my back. I don't have the courage to do a handstand without something behind my back that preserves me from falling. No idea what was the best to do if you lose the balance and fall on your back side. My wish is to be able to do a handstand without a wall. I also can hardly swing up to the handstand without touching the wall (and then pushing the feet away from it).
I have just started practice at handstand a few days ago and i find it easy to do it when there is a wall behind.but when i tried it without something behind i felt with my back.i read that walking at your hand help retain balance but when i tried to lift my right hand and place it a few inches forward i felt to this right side.Any tips to do this right???
If you want to walk, try to swing your legs left and right a little bit. If legs are left, you can lift your right hand etc.
ps. I noticed that my upper arm muscles are to weak to stand a longer time or walk. And although I'm making fitness (with weight lifting) since 6 years ago, even a handstand pushup is impossible. To compare, I manage about 15-20 pullups. There has to be a way to manage also a handstand pushup I think... but how...
My question is, how did you train your arms? I'm looking for a training with the highest possible efficiency, especially for the deltoid muscles.
well first of all thanks for your advise. My arm muscles are strong because i used to be kickboxer.i have stopped long time before but i remember some good exersises. What matters in hanstand is shoulder muscles.Get some weight at every hand(3 kilos is fine)and start panching for about 2 minutes. Then sit down and with the same weight open your arms(your body now should be like a cross).do this about 30 times every day, continue pushups and in a week you will be able to do handstand pushups easily.
nicolas (no offense) is saying it to complicated. just lean your whole body foward and your arms will follow. but try this somewhere really soft because you could fall.
when walking( normaly) you technicaly let your self fall first, and stop your self with a leg, so wen you want to walk on your hans, you must first learn how to balance and how to change it whitout "falling" to hard
The problem is that I´m too high and also thin. I´ve been working hard in my abs and shoulders (in gym) but anybody knows exactly why does it is easier for short people to do a handstand? (and not only that, I think all the "gymnastic" type movements). I would like to know anyone thin and high in acrobatic martial arts. DO YOU THINK IT MAY BE POSSIBLE??? DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE?
i'm not sure, but i think the reason why small people flip faster is because of centripital motion (gotta love tha physics). Smaller people usually spin much faster than larger/longer people. It is sorta like the revolution of planets, when someone tucks the're trying to be as circular as possible to get the best rotation, and when referring to the planets the larger orbits take much longer than the smaller orbits (i.e earth and jupiter perhaps?). This is the same as when a large person tucks as to when a small person tucks, no matter what they do if large person tucks, they will never get as small as a small person when he/she tucks. Thus why smaller people rotate much faster than a large person and are usually better at gymnast stuff. Ever wonder why the best gymnasts are like 11 years old and from China?
My adventure with handstand has started about 5 months ago when i watched accidentally in TV a program about Moulin Rouge. There was just a crazy handstander. He started handstand whithout any problem and then done something like "legs slopes" - he bend his legs on loins (keeping its straight in knees) up to legs was parallel with ground. Then he lift legs up to normal handstand - and again, again. He done it whithout any problem - still talking with jornalist ! When i saw this i was just like spellbound ;) - He is like KING, like HANDSTAND MASTER - I WANT DO IT THE SAME !!!! ;)
So i started doing handstand exercises - i haven't any teachers and don't know any advices - it was just my explorations. I started from learning headstand. Headstand was small problem - I learned it fast (but i think you can't learn handstand without doing good headstand - it's all about finding body-balance). I learned even "legs slopes" from headstand - it was also simple thing. Then i pushing up my body from head- to handstand (on legs touching wall) and started learning handstand up to these days ;). I can stand about 1 to 2 mins on hands without wall. It's no such problem when you keep your body straight. But "legs slopes" is perfect handstanders trick - it's art of finding body-balance. I can bend legs somewhat - but it's nothing with compare to the handstand master from Mouline Rouge. I think that i've to carry body weight to fingers and repel backward by "hand's heels". But the surface of shore is small to keep body balance. In headstand i have more shores - head & 2 hands so i can do it without any problem.
Can anyone do this exercise - and if so what way he goes to this master work ?!
Hey Anyone that knows how to do a handstand pleze tell me like prompto. Someone that has been tking gymnastics for a long time and that is really good at walking in handstands and holding it.i mean does ur body need to be straight i mean tell me everything that u need to do at holding and walking ur handstands!!!!!!!!!
well.. i started on handstanding 1 or 2 mths ago.. and i am glad to say i have pretty well really learned alot... now i am able to walk with my hands when i am balanced.. and able to do a scorpion without any wall support... try to maintain ur balance.. when u handstand.. and u are going to topple over forward.. move ur hands forward as well.. same to ur feet when your body is leaning forward and u are losing ur balance.. u tend to move ur foot forward.. same to the hands.. :)
Well... I can do one against the wall, but not in regular very long. Can I have some tips. One more thing, How to you stop yourself from falling toward your stomach, and is it ok to bend your knees?
Learn how to do it on a wall. In a handstand position against the wall gently push off, if you feel you are going to fall just let yourself down gently.....easy peasy.
Okay, I tried all the stuff, but I still can't really get it. How do you stop yourself from falling, cause when I just start to tilt a little, I usually land it, but how to you keep on standing up!!! I can usually do it for about2-3 seconds... HELP!!
I just read this whole page twice, and i noticed that absolutly no one has talked about handstand pirouette. I know how to do handstand for a min+, and I want to learn how to do pirouette but first i need the people who know how to do it to speak up PLEASE!! And why is the handstand page the same as the handstand pirouette page???
does anybody know anything about preventing the blood from rushing to your head so much, when i do a handstand, my face gets so red.is it just my pale skin, or is it something that eventually goes away?
When I do a handstand with my body straight the blood rushes to my head also. When I arch my back and bend my knees while I'm in handstand position, the blood doesn't rush to my head as noticeably. But I'm not sure if there's a way to make the blood not rush to your head when your body is straight. Does anyone no of one?
its al about the construction of your bloodvessels but I know you get used to the blood rush
one thing I notised is that you're shoulders are incredible important, this may sound obvious, but try to take the position you are in when in handstand but than normaly, that means strech out as far as possible, if you let your hands move forward ( the end result means that your arms are paralel to the ground WITHOUT moving your shoulders you will notisch the are still up tight, I don't know how you come in to the handstand but if your shoulders aren't correct you will not do it correctly
when i first started learning handstands i used the wall , then i started doing them out in the open the next day iwas sore as ill get out! is there any way to make the sore ness go away faster?
I'm close to 300 pounds. Never dared to do Sh*t. Now that I turned 21 I have started to try alot of crazy things. One of them is the hand stand. It's taken me months. But atlast I can do it.So far I learned you just have 2 do it.Try day after day even if you can't lift ur feet more than 2 feet of the ground. With each practice you'll get higher and highier. Life is short so enjoy it.
i can do handstands and the best way to get the feel for it is by starting in a pool with the water up to about your waste or bellybutton. then move onto a wall, then move one foot away from the wall so u will be doing it without help, it's safe b/c then if u fall foreward u gently hit the wall. try it!
Well look what I found today, I bet some of these tips would have helped last year when I first starting walking on my hands for the fun of it. I'd say the one thing I am almost able to do is the handstand pushup, now that's a rush!
hey sup people... the way i learned to get over both the blood rush and balance aspect of the handstand was to start by doing a headstand from kneeling position. you simply put your hands down in front of you (hands facing forward), bend your elbows to 90 degrees as you put your head down, place your knees on the platforms you just made of your elbows, and then slowly lift your legs. enough time (in repetition i mean) in this position adjusts you to the blood rush and by bringing your body to a position where you don't feel the weight leaning one way or the other will be the same position as it needs to be in a handstand. feel uncomfortable about falling over? just practice judo style forward rolls or even elementary school style forward rolls (you know, right over your head in a straight line)...
sup y'all i've been trying to do handstands for a few weeks and I can flip up, and stay up for a few second, then when i lose my balance and try to correct it, i end up spinning around or just falling over any tips??
Hi, I can hold a handstand for about 3 to 5 seconds before losing balance and falling. Does anyone have any tips on how to improve balance on a handstand? Does it help to keep a firm position or a more fluid one.
I'm a 6'3" 40-year-old man and have been working on handstands for about 18 months. I can hold a (relatively still) handstand pose for about 15 seconds. I can walk around for about 45 seconds most every day and can reach a minute on a good day -- before I get too tired to continue.
I'm 6'3" . . .
So I don't think 5'7" is too tall to do handstands. :-)
And I don't think age 40 is too old to learn. Next goal: to go from balancing crow to handstand and back again. This will probably take a year.
When u do a handstand, i do them naked. First you want to just try it before practicing and i did it my first try and i can do it for about 5 minutes now. I walked home on ym hands once, my best friend is Eric Spreat, hes number 1 in ohio division of gimnastics.
like what i mentioned earlier now i am able to walk with my hands try to maintain ur balance.. when u handstand.. and u are going to topple over forward.. move ur hands forward as well.. same to ur feet when your body is leaning forward and u are losing ur balance.. u tend to move ur foot forward.. same to the hands.. :)
This technique of getting into a handstand isnt as hard as it looks. I just recently learned how to do it and I also just learned how to do it on someones shoulders which was kinda scary, but once you llearn how to do it on the floor you can do it on the Bommel horse,p-bars,but your handstand has to be very solid or youll fall off. 1)start in the side splits. 2)Now you wanna put your hands in front of you, inside your legs. 3)From here you wanna pull up with your hips until your kinda in a doble leg width floor touch. 4)Once your here you wanna put all your weight on your sholders by leaning forward. 5)Now pull as much as you can with your hips and abs and slowly bring your legs together into the handstand.
In my opinion i think learning how to do a handstand is like learning how to ride a bike, maintaining balance. just practice try it on a wall or have a friend hold your legs while you stand on your hands just like your mom holding you on the bike or something. oh ya this is a lot easier if you can lift your own weight
Handstands are easy to balance standing still, but I am trying to learn to walk on my hands I can only take about 10 steps or so then I go back down. I can already do front, back, 180, and side flips on ground I love doing flips I can also do front and back handsprings one handed cart wheels. It did not even take me half a year to get that stuff but I want to walk on my hands.
The key to success is just to try to get less and le ss momentum and just transfer your torso directl y above your hands with just a little swing in your legs. Don't try to swing your body till it reaches the right point, when you set your hands 50 centim eters in front of you - it won't work mostly! For be ginners, it's easier to do it that way I described .
heelo, i am about 14 and want to get at my handstan ds. I can only do a handstand for about 2 seconds th en fall i cant keep in the air. Please help me. I wan t to better then my cuz zak he shows off a bit to much . thanx cya

1. Keep ya legs together 2. Don't have a hollow back 3. Only balance with ya fingers, not with y our back or your legs 4. Look at a point between y our fingers - it's much easier than looking forwa rd or behind you 5. You have to want it! 6. Trai n 7. Get a spotter who holds his one hand horizon tal. Do a handstand against it like you do against a wall. Now the spotter places his other hand one s houlderwidth apart. Now you can try better to kee p yo balance
hey, im only 11 years old but i can do a handstand k inda good, i want to know, if i do it every day will i b able to do it for a LONG time, does it come natural ly or do i need to do different stuff to learn?
I came on here to see how, then I said "Screw it!" a nd went and found a wall to lean against every day I did it (this was a week ago) and now I can walk on my h ands and do handstand pressups!!!!! Just lean ag ainst a wall. at first I felt blood rushing to my he ad and it felt horrible but on the 2nd day of doing i t, it had gone! I couldn't feel the blood rushing t o my head, all it requires is pratice, I could bare ly get my feet off the ground when I first started d oing this!!!! Just USE A WALL!!!! Yes Thankyou Ne oKarate!!!!
My master taught me how do handstands very easil y. We started with just one foot in front of the oth er and pushing off. Dont go all the way up and land o n the foot u pushed off with. once u can hold your po sition start walking around on your hands. it wil l build the strength you need to get better
To do a handstand perfectly is all by training. " Practice makes perfect" . i have been doing hands tand since i had 4 years. At the age of five, i walke d 100m on my hands. I don't know why but for a perion of time, about 6 years, i stopped doin the handsta nd but toda, i'm 15 as i'm studying physical educa tion, that means that i have to practice the hands tand. Practice with a friend. 1.stand up with u r hands upwards. 2.push yourself forward on th e palm of your hands lifting your feet slowly doin g this repeatedly. 3.at a certain height, your partner is to hold your feet for some seconds and t hen push your self back to a standing position. 4.By repeating this, you are improving your leve l of handstand. 5.When you think you are able to do it alone just let yourself go and practice to do it. 6.THERE YOU ARE NOW PRACTICE TO MOVE AROUND ON UR HANDS! 7.VISIT MY WEBSITE ON www.mose.da .ru and leave a message on the guestbook. 8.THE RE ARE MANY FISH IN THE SEA BUT IT WOULD FEEL SO EMPT Y WITHOUT ME!!
i came here looking for tips on doing a handstand . i do it cuz, well, im just a wierd guy, and doing ra ndom handstands and maybe eventually walking on my hands in a normal comunity would make me seem ev en more wierd :P anywayz. the staring at a spot i nbetween ur hands helps SOOOO much! omg! its craz y. guess it makes it easier to concentrate. i use a little piece of paper or something and put it inbe tween where ima put my hands and stare at it. it nea rly doubled my time. i can hold it for about 3 secon ds normally, but when looing at the paper thingy i can hold it for 5-7 seconds! ive been trying han dstand for about 2 days now and i wanna know if i sho uld learn to handstand b4 learning to walk on my ha nds. thanks
now im randomly sore in my arms and legs... is thi s normal? it might be cuz ive been practicing for s o long... any tips on reducing this annoying pain ?
I've done a few handstands in the past and I can gi ve a few pointers. I can't do it right now because m y roommate is in the room, but anyway.
If the b lood is rushing to your head, push up with your arm s and straighten them out. You are letting your we ight sag to your shoulders and head, and the blood vessels are constricting. If you want to walk for ward, perhaps you can bend your knees slightly an d start walking with your hands. It will hurt your wrists slightly, especially for girls, but you s hould get used to it eventually and gain more stre ngth.
I find it difficult to kick up from the g round into a handstand. Can you just spring onto y our hands from a standing position instead or wil l that put too much stress on the wrists and harm th em?
Hey, yeah it might put alot of pressure on your wr ist at one time, and maybe even hurt them!! But I wo uld just keep practicing from the ground! Youll g et it!! Dont worry! I got mine when I was really lit tle, but I would just keep practicing your arms wi ll get stronger and so will your wrist! But rememb er.. dont give up!
One of my friends told me about this and it was tou gh at first. Instead of leaning forward into a han dstand, do a half cartwheel and stop and hold your self there. At first you'll probably follow thro ugh with a cartwheel, but after that you'll find o ut how to shift your momentum around. What helps o n this is to spread your legs at first, then bring t hem together after you have your balance. It's ac tually quite fun.
2.) If it hurts, when you're doing the move th en: A.) You're doing it wrong b.) You're putt ing too much stress on your body and it tells your m ind to stop
3.) If it hurts, then you're propa bly working too hard. You ain't gonna get the move just because you try it for 14 hours a day. Take it e asy, rest a lot, drink LOTS of water (cause it make s ye HARDCORE ;) ) and just take it easy. It'll come ...!
for the people wanting to learn how to do hanstan ds it is best not to start walking unless that is al l u are wanting to achieve from then handstands. i started doing handstands about 4 years ago and i b ent my knees and walked all over the place but now a fter i learnt how to do hanstands properly it was a lot harder to get the right body shape and tecniqu e. so my tip is if u wont to hold a static handstand d on't walk at first or move your hands if you are fal ling out of it, doing it against the wall(facing t he wall) is the best for beginers. p.s it is best to learn to roll out of your handstand if you are fall ing over backwards.
Ok how do i do one hand hand stands? wots the corre ct tecnique? and whats the best excercise too tra in my arm to do this? my mail addy dream_boy_uk@ho tmail.com nice one....
Try to force your legs straight up towards the ce iling, and use all ur body might to stay straight u p. Then after that, just find ur center of gravity by looking in the middle of your hands and squeeze your muscles tight tight tight to stay up.

Ok I am a newbie at the whole handstand thing, but whenever I practice for a while, all the blood con stantly rushing to my head leaves me with a killer headache! Is this normal? Will my body simply get used to it after a while? And will my face stop turn ing purple when I'm upside-down? I would reeeeea lly appreciate an answer; the previous question s on this subject were mostly ignored. I'd like to know my head is not going to explode or anything. T HANKS!
I have been working on handstands like mad for a f ew days now; everything is coming along fine exce pt I am starting to notice some pain in my wrists. H ow can I know if this is normal pain that will go awa y as they get stronger, or if I am actually injurin g them somehow?
when i do hand stances against the wall, i know i c an do it longer but all my blood keeps rushing to my head, i feel like im about to pass out or something
i would think its just normal pain. if your wrist arent very strong (my arent neither)your bodywe ight can give quite pressure on them. i dont see ho w u can injure ur wrists with handstands IF ur not f lipping over and than land a wrong way or somethin g
Hey guys this stuff really works - I can do it - I ca n handstand yippee!! I never thought I would get i t but practise practise and more practise works. The trick to staying up is going up slow and stiffe ning your body. I still fall sometimes but I've go t it - thanks everyone for the great advice posted .
im a contortionist and i have really good flexib ility;anyway ; i also take karate and sometimes i practice hanstands, while doing a handstand i do a vertical split and i never stay up long why do you think that is ? a site i visited sayed i had to sprea d my fingers out and that will give me balance; is t hat true ?
When I do handstands: I get SO DIZZY it's not fu nny, I start feeling like everything is turning p uple and then I get dizzy and can't breathe and get nauseous when I'm upside down and I feel like pres sure is on my ears and my whole body gets heavy and m y arm start feeling fuzzy. What's wrong with me??
hi im a dancer and i think doing a handstand will b e great for my performance but i never did one. i kn ow how to do them in water (pool) but i dont know how to do them on land. please give me some pointers. t hank u
when trying to do a onearmed handstand u have to g o very slow. after uve mastered a regular handsta nd u slowly move all ur weight to one arm. DO NOT cha nge ur body position. (if ur back is arched and ur s houlders are sagging it will be very difficult to hold a one armed handstand.) when all ur weight is on one arm then slowly lift ur other arm. it takes A LOT of practice and it helps if u have someone to sp ot ur body while ur moving ur weight to one arm.
First start with your body in a frog like positio n then kinda stab ur elbows into the inside of ur th ighs then try to balance ur self on ur arms once u ge t the hang of this push ur body all the way up and kic k ur legs out
If you wanna be strong do handstand press ups. Fi nd a guy at the gym who's built like a **** brick hou se....... i bet he can't even do one..... Now what s the definition of strength then?...... pause f or thought :D
starting with feet shoulders width (relax firs t, no hype! just chill.) spinnig counter-cloc k-wise. beginning 'as if' you were to throw a me ia lua de compasso or spin hook kick. reach the r ight hand across the chest and place where the lef t foot was. the left foot cranks around behindyou as you go into a 'one-handed-hand-stand spinnig .' at first a 180 then a 360 next a 540 or 720 then pos sibly catching and holding a stall or a stand or in to a head spin or out by way of an au, a cartwhell, or walk over. remember to get the hand to spin on the f loor and not just rotate around a rooted hand on th e ground. (relax as best you can) be safe.
I've been doing three sets of 20 press ups every d ay for as long as i can remember, but i still can't d o a single full handstand push up, or support my we ight in A HANDSTAND FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS. What am i doing wrong?
I've been trying to do handstands for about a mon th now. A few times (like three) I actually manage to stay up for at least 5 seconds. Now, almost 100% of the time, I always FLIP. I have no idea what I'm d oing wrong. I try to put in enough force to go up, bu t I flip. Too little force = me coming down. I dunno ...do you guys have any ideas on how I can solve thi s?
