I've taken tumbling for quite a while, and yes, classes do cost, but you need to learn and practice with people that know what they are doing, and that can teach you safely!
First of all Im a gymnast and ive been doin it for 5 years.Im 11 but I can do more than 1 onehanded backspring.First you need to learn a 2 handed backspring.For all of you who think you need to jump up your wrong.You have to jump back as far as you can but jump back at the same time that you throgh your hands back.You need to do this fast.Through your hands back and jump at the same time.keep your head between your shoulders and you will be fine.I normally do atleast 6 of them in a row and will be able to do the whole field.Im 2 time NZ champ so listen to my advise.Dont forgen that practice makes perfect and start learning them on a soft object.I f you have acsess to a gym club practise there.It will take a maximam of 1 month learning time.
One Hand Handsprings are pretty easy depending on you, now Misha makes a good point with her method, but it gets easier all you need to do is practice on normal back handsprings then when you feel confident jump back into a back handspring and when you land with your hands remove your weakiest arm and complete the flip with your strongest arm, after a while you should be able to just throw your self back and while you're in the air lock the weak arm and land on the other arm(note:DO NOT LOCK THE ARM THAT YOU WILL LAND ON). e-mail me at hi-c@streetracing.com if you have any questions or if you want further trainning.
How do you do a back handspring w/o spot?I mean i can do it by myself but my gym coach Mrs.Patti has to stand their and not touch me but if she is not there then i cant do it!and I dont no why!Can you give my some hints on what I need to do!!!!!And if i dont get my backhandspring befor summer then i wont be able to move on up!!!

lol. hey kate. u mite notice i didnt say i mastered it. i said i could do it. and i can do it mainly only on my bed. i've been working on the grass right now, but i'm having some difficulty getting the leg bounce that the bed gives that the solid ground doesnt.
also, i forgot to mention, i've been searching other sites getting bits of advice here and there. its just that misha's advice was the final piece that i needed to help me break through.

im guessing..work on ur back hand springs untill u have it mastered and then try doing backbeds and kikovers with ur hand placed in the center and then just try it..the worst is that u land on ur hed
hi ben i'm here and if you want pointers e-mail me. Any way to do a backhandspring you can run and do a roundoff and then jump high and keep your arms straight placing them on the floor and you will eventually land your backhandspring.

I do understand this is for the One Hand back hand springs but some are coming here for help on the ba sic back handspring.
I suggest you get on t he trampoline.
Practice some on doing just a Backbend do a few to warm ur back up for this stuff. after you have ur back limbered out u need to kick o ver a few times ( back bend kick over) just go back a nd throw ur leg over on the trampoline *it should b e simple*
after this try going back into ur ba ck bend but give it a little jump.. i have done some in 5th grade (in 7th now) and quit.. as someone sai d BIG MISTAKE but i am also in gymnastics you peopl e constantly worry (which i can understand) when u are going to do this just go ( 5...6...7..8) and g o like u are going to a sitting position sorta bend on ur knees, go as if ur doing ur back bend kickover but just give it a LITTLE jump and maybe have someo ne spot u but i do NOT reccomend a spotter as it will only weigh the trampoline down but have someone w atch u from the ground atleast!!
hey ~ ~ i used to have the same problem. i couldnt d o a backhandspring with a spot unless they were on the left. but just think of it this way its the exac t same thing with a spot on the right-it doesnt mak e a difference in how you do your backhandspring. as for the fronthandspring over the soccer ball t hingthat sounds unsafe cuz the ball could slip ou t from under you n you could get hurt really bad
Hi there, I really want to learn this move as we ll and I've practised, but instead of going over I keep going sideways. (if I go at all) I am sort of af raid of landing on my head, or my arms being to weak to hold me up resulting in the same. and what is t his DO NOT LOCK THE ARM YOU LAND ON. yo wat up everybody im jus here to throw out some t ips caz i jus learnd back handsprings and backfli ps on my trampoline jus tonight caz i've been to la zy to try and dont wanna mess up my 360 backflip but it diddnt everythin tha Leigh person told you is g ood advice if I were you id follow that get a trampo line and practice on that but make sure u can hold a backwards bridge for at least a minute you wanna b e flexible do a bridge then try to kick your feet ov er you mabie kick one harder if you need to once you can do that try jus speeding it up little by little and you will get the feel for it eventually but its seriously a good thing to have someone watch you d oing this because it can be dangerous soo bee CaRe FuLl yea so i hope this helps at least a little bit p eace out
Stand up, put your hands straight out above your head then fall back slightly (this is important b ecause it wont work if you only jump up and upside- down, you must jump back too) then swing your arms to 90 degrees then up to your head again and quickl y bend your knees and thrust yourself up and backw ards. it sounds complicated but the arm swing is o ften necessary if you're a beginner, so you get ex tra power behind your jump. you need strength in y our shoulders because you need to be able to suppo rt your own weight on landing. good luck!

Here's a good way to learn a 1 handed back handspr ing: As most of you know, when you tumble on a regul ar basis, a wrist injury in most likely just aroun d the corner. Whether it be a mild sprain or a full o ut broken wrist. Well, if you have an injured wris t and can already do regular back handsprings wit h ease, then go for the one-handed back handsprin g! With your brokoen wrist it'll guarentee you th at you won't pussy out and put your other hand down ... well, it worked for me anyways, and now I'm doi ng one handed backsprings carrying a sword in my f ree hand. So just try it out!

well, first of all it took me year before i could d o my backhandspring without freaking out that i w as going to fall all the time, so don't feel bad. se cond, i can't think of any way you could do it at hom e safely unless you have a trampoline. grass hurt s if you fall, trust me. so you might want to invest in a trampoline, and make sure you get one thats at least as long as your body because thats how long b ackhandsprings are supposed to be. if your mom is n't willing to shell out the money to buy a trampol ine ask her if you can go to open gym every now and th en. and when you go to do your backhandspring, giv e yourself a second to concentrate and think abou t what you're gonna do. then swing your arms BACK a nd FAST. as fast as you can, and jump hard too. keep your head between your shoulders and let your arm s bend only SLIGHTLY so that you don't break your a rm. do NOT lock your arms. then when you're kind of in the handstand position, snap your legs down ha rd, as though something from above was pushing th em down. that will give you a good rebound and prep are you for your next backhandspring (should you want to do one). the key to a good backhandspring i s to make it fast and to jump back. the slower it is, the more likely you are to put too much pressure on your wrists and hurt them. i hope this helps anyon e who wanted to know how.

Guys stop getting off subject a standing backha ndspring is the building block to eventually a st anding handspring double twist. You think You ca n do that with no speed? Sit to a 90 degree angle pus h up as hard and fast as you can (backwards, not upw ards) and send your arms back behind your ears loc ked. Then land as you would a handstand snap down. As to one handed, first get a standing whip. if you don't know what that is you shouldn't be tryign th ese. then with the standing whip just tap one hand down. then actually push off it and get power. I am 16 and I cheer and I can double twist out of more and more difficult things. The more you fall the more you will learn. Just don't get hurt or be stupid.

i have been doing gymnastics for 4 years and i hav e never had a lesson or any help. i can do bout 11 bac khandsprings in a row and a running backtuck. lea rn the backhandspring from stationary and then t o perfect it do a running arab-spring into backha ndspring and if you just go for it your body does al l the work and you can chilax and soak in the applua se. practicing like this is how i accidentally di d a whipover(backtuck with staight legs and they WHIP over)good luck and happy practicing and ach ey muscles galore. lol
