I need help on my roundoff backhandspring

I can do a roundoffbackhanspring but sometimes when i do the roundoff then it comes to the backhanspring i do it but i never land it good.could u help me

re:help
by Anonymous on 2002-01-11
what you need to do is probably start doing power hurdles. A power hurdle is when you reach up really high so you have a lot of momentome when you come down. If that doesnt work then you need to try to get your legs together faster.

Round-off
by Thomas on 2002-09-20
First Thing to optimize it:

The way you start. very important are the beginning steps to get speed. watch like the Gymnastic guys do it.
A mistake that is often made is, that people place their hands to near to there feet. You have to place your hands far away from your feet to have a faster rotation. Always try to watch through your hands. If you want to do a backhandspring afterwards, you have to place your feet as near as possible to your hands while landing the round-off. If you want to do a back-sommersault afterwards you have to land the round-off with your feet FAR away from your hands. Don`t hurt yourself. Greetings from Heidelberg, Germany.

Round-off's
by Hi-C on 2003-01-25
Round-Off's are a gymnastic move wich is also used for cheerleading, I'm surprised that you can do back-handsprings and back tucks-I'm still working on my back tucks, which I need help with, but check it out, Round-off's are pretty easy it's like doing a cartwheel but you need to close your legs when you're in the handstand position of the move, tell you what work on cartwheel but don't throw you're hands sideways instead throw them forward but your body will swing sideways/your body should twist in the air giving it that roun-off look, the final step is to jump with your hands when you're going to finish the move. e-mail me at hi-c@streetracing.com if you've got any questions.:-)

running round off
by Anonymous on 2003-01-27
whenever I do a running roundoff I hurt my back and almost fall down. Is this because I'm putting to much speed and power into it??? I can do a normal round off just fine??? And when I do a cartwheel I can't seem to do it straight. what can I do to help this. Please e-mail me @ cool12033@mail2justme.com or post a message up on the board thanx :)

by jackie chan on 2003-02-02
When doing a running round off dont run too fast or it becomes much harder. And when doing a cartwheel think legs straight and try bending your legs the wrong way it helps them to keep straight.

by DRUNKEN MASTER on 2003-02-08
I must say this move is the easiest of all acrobatics.

this is rather simple...
by cheer etc. dood on 2003-02-20
ok, this is about the easiest thing except a cartwheel. if you're right handed, start right foot in front, left foot in back. place both hands straight up over your head. reach for the ground infront of your feet. (pretend like everything is on a balance beam, so your feet, hands, and "landing feet" should all be in a line) the trick to this is doing it as fast as controlled. when your feet are on their way down, try to snap them as fast as possible and get them underneath you. pushing off with your hands help as well, giving you a little more time to get your feet underneath.

noone - just work on your roundoff repeatedly and before long you'll get it. try running, taking one big skip, and then entering the roundoff. (if your right hand goes down first, skip with your right foot in the air) just work on gaining momentum and pushing off harder.

end

round-off
by Felicec on 2003-03-05
I know how to do a backhandspring...and I practically know how to do a back tuck. But my round-offs are horrible.I know I know,it's the easiest trick in the world next to the cartwheel. But everytime I do it my body leans to the right as I'm coming down and forces my flips crooked.Or..I don't get enough momentum thus making my flips lower...Any hints...?Please fully explain

how to do a roundoff
by Anonymous on 2003-03-05
my friend taught me it this way:
in slow motion, do a one handed cartwheel, but before you finish, put ur other hand down while twisting your body 180 degrees ie the opposite way of when u started. then snap ur feet down together. takes 5 mins max of practice ;)

Push off with your hands in the middle or take them off as soon as your legs touch.

all of u can do it!
by bflip master on 2003-04-28
I swear, all u guys can do a round-off to bflip. My round-offs aren't str8 but that doesn't matter 'cos the force is still there. It feels wierd cos after the round-off jump u feel nothing, then all of a sudden u can feel a strong force pulling around. just remember to use all the chest muscles you have!

How to do a Roundoff
by MTHS martial arts boy on 2003-09-15
Roundoffs are kinda tricky. i had trouble with the form untill someone showed me how. Do not think of it as a cartwheel with a little twist at the end, because a cartwheel uses a totally differnt form. When you go to do a roundoff jump out words instead of just laying your hands down like a cartwheel. When you jum outward it gives you momentum. Think of it as diviing to the ground at about a 45 dagree angle. Make sure you jump like you are divin in a pool do not turn your body sideways like a cartwheel. If you jump sideways you will spin too much. You want to have your right hand above your left hand if you spin to the left and if you go the other way switck hand positions. Think of it as a cartwheel hand position, but each arm is rotated 90 dagrees. you will dive forward with your hands in position. When your hands hit the ground twist and pop off your hands onto your feet. Hopefully after a while you will feel a liittle bit of pop when you land. I am sorry if this is confuzin, but it is harder to explain then a backflip. Hope you get it GOOD LUCK!

I'm just screwing around with the whole idea of d oing gymnastics for my high school, and when tryi ng to figure out how to do a round off, i figured out a new idea. Instead of diving with your hands firs t in combination with your legs, I dove headfirst /handsfirst into the ground with plenty of forwa rd momentum, and i ended up doing the same thing (i n effect) as a normal roundoff. Does anyone know w hat that is?

Roundoffs
by Michael on 2004-02-23
I really don't know much about gymnastics but im into martial arts. One of my practices is holding a hand-stand for five minutes. I have no gymnasti cs skill whatsoever but i found the roundoff to be fairly easy. Start off holding a hand stand. you c an probably lean against a wall. Aim for thirty se conds to begin with, then gradually progress. Af ter about a week you should be able to do a roundoff . Thats how i learned. Also watch someone do it a fe w times. E Mail me if you have any questions.

by mel on 2004-04-19
I can do a round off and spin an extra 180 so land fa cing the way I started. if that makes any sense! I f ind i can only do it, or even a normal round off when i get a lot of speed at the start so therefore I have more force. It is hard to control when you do it fas t but you just have to practice. I haven't got the c ontrol perfect yet.

round-off and cartwheels
by Anonymous on 2004-05-12
I'm 14 and i still cant do a cartwheel or round off . I've been trying for only 2 weeks now. Do u you thi nk that it's too late to learn these? I need your op inion please! Thank you!

It's not too late
by Michael on 2004-05-21
What do you mean? "im 14...is it too late?" Its ne ver too late. just because you didn't start when y ou were 4 or whatever doesn't mean anything excep t that you need to practice, thats all. Just keep t rying and eventually everything will 'click' in to place. and if at all possible, video tape some r ound-offs or whatever and watch them in slow-mo o r watch other people. Just keep trying and you'll get it. I didn't start training until i was 15. I'm 16 and 1/2 now and i can do quite a few different tri cks. Just keep trying.

by lynn on 2004-07-09
When you going to do you round off just take a piec e of tape.then put it in a straight line ,and start on the tape. Then do the round off and see if your fe et land on the tape, but just remember never give u p. Take like a 2 min breake, but then keep tring. I n ow you will get it. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

tumbling (roundoffs)
by coach chris on 2004-08-14
Heres a bunch of stuff one may need in order to do a good roundoff: you have to reach out w/ your arms b y your ears not bent and they have to stay up, Then b end w/ your entire body forward and reach as far as possible away from your feet w/o falling down, In order to turn you just turn your hands if your a rig hty you turn your hands right and you rotate them c lockwise while still reaching w/ your arms strai ght lefty is the opposite, If your afraid of falli ng dont be keep your arms tight and if your hands ar e turned it won't be a handstand kickover it'll be a roundoff or cartwheel if you kick out. After you have your hands placed correctly kick as hard as y ou can to the sky and lock your legs out. If you have a good cartwheel and need a roundoff, just change your legs so as soon as your hands touch the ground your feet come together. While your kicking your legs over your head you need to look at your hands, and push out of your finger tips. If you don't look at your hands you won't know where you are and if yo u dont' push your fingertips and shrug your shoul ders your chest will stay down. when you push from your finger tips you DO NOT BEND your arms they awa ys stay tight. to finish your roundoff you need to snapdown your legs and pull your chest up. To make sure your doin it correctly you need to do it on a li ne both hands should be on the line and your feet sh ould start and land on the line. All this stuff sho uld be done as one fluent motion and not broken up s o all the directions have to be connected they are broken up just to explain it after you read it conn ect all it and try. If anyone has problems underst anding this info email me and i'll try to clear it u p thats the best i can explain a roundoff w/o showi ng someone its hard to explain tho and i am a legit t umbling coach so i do know what to do

I need to learn how to do a round off
by Anonymous on 2004-08-16
I need to learn how to do a round of back hand sprin g by November to join the cheer squad for freshman cheer. Please give me some tips on how to do one. Th anks

lots of tips. (sorry its so long!)
by Aly on 2004-08-21
"i see when they do the backtuck part they put the ir hands under their legs. "
that's not always t he best idea. if you can slap your legs and get your arms back up by your head you're all set. but if you keep them down there, big no no. it looks sloppy. a nd if you cant slap your legs them get your arms bac k up, keep them by your ears.

more hints for tu cks
+don't throw your head back
+don't reach for the ground
+when you jump, jump up, not back
+i find it easier to START unbending my legs the second i start descending, this way, you don't la nd in a squat.

tips for back handsprings:
- sit like you would in a chair
-use your legs to po wer you back, not your arms
-when you swing your arms, it looks sloppy, but if you do, make sure onc e they;'re down, they swing up the instant you go b ack
-the ideal back handspring is the length of your body with arms extended.
-if you're going crooked, it may be because you're swinging one ar m back more than the other,if this is the cause, tr y to reverse it.
say you throw your right arm too much, try to throw your left arm too much. it helpe d for me.
-keep your head straight, dont look fo r your belly or the ground
-legs together at all times!

roundoff tips:
~from standing, us e your front leg to give you momentum
~from runn ing, use your hurdle to throw you
~reach your ar ms as far away from your starting point as possibl e
~if you take a lot of strides before hurdling, try to keep them fast and hard
*beginning round offs*
~first, be able to do a cartwheel
~then work on dive cartwheels (dive into it, reaching a rms as far out from start as possible)
~then wor k on cartwheel snap togethers: cartwheel and bri ng the last legs into theleg that lands first as fa st as possible
~try cartwheel kick-turns: car twheel, dont let your second leg hit the floor, ki ck it up and turn (use the kick to turn)
~don't tu rn your hands in, or out..thats a good way to snap a n elbow

rnadom:
*roundoff back handsprin g: you should land from your roundoff with your fe et in front of you, as you stretch back into the han dspring
*roundoff tuck:land with your feet as far behind you as possible.
*flexibilty:the o nly way to become more flexible is to stretch ever y day. hold splits for at least one minute. if you' re beginning, over splits for 30s each legs (over spilts:split over a gap...between chairs or usu ally panel mats)
*be sure to warm up (do a few lap s around your house or a half a mile on a treadmill) and then stretch before any physical activiy.
*don't forget to stretch your ankles and wrists.
*drink water before during and after exercise !
*dont forget conditioning! average level tu mblers should be able to do:
-40 crunches (it sh ould take one minute to do these properly
-20 cr unches to each side
-10 regular pushups
-5 wi de pushups
-5 camel pushups (butt in the air)
-5 hershey kiss pushups (put your hands together in the shape of a hershy kiss)
-25 calf raises
-10 ^ toes in
-10 ^ toes our
-20 of any of these j umps: plie (legs apart, squat, jump up snap feet t ogether then spread and repeat), tuck (knees to c hest), straddle ("toe-touch"), pike (legs stra ight out in front), wolf (one leg bent under, othe r in pike), or rock jumps (tuck, roll back, candle stick, roll back up, repeat)...OR 20 mountain cl imbers (lunge, jump to other legs, repeat: both l egs=1)

stretch and condition for a month and you'll be more flexible and in better shape than y ou would ever imagine (but don't stop or else, fle xibilty will too!)

sorry this is so long, but i tried to help a lot.

any questions (doubtfu l) just email AlyCat8701@linkinpark.com
