  1. usually a roundhouse kick (right leg),then as the kicking leg lands jump and spin counter-clockwise, bringing the left knee all the way around and kicking with the right leg (land on the left...land on the right and you've done a 540). Reverse applies for the left legged. [MEDS]
  2. AKA tornado kick, but geeze, if u hafta fake a 540, u need to practice!
  3. not sure to describe, but like a 540 hook with the spin and hook making only one kick.
Also called: tornado kick, fake 540

Variation
by Lerner on 2000-11-30
(Starting from a left leg front stance) One example is to execute a right leg
right-to-left crescent kick and turn your body with the leg with your back
to the target then tuck the left knee up to the chest (while spinning) and do
another right leg kick, crescent kick, roundhouse, etc. but in the air to the
same target.

answer to one legged tornado
by Anonymous on 2001-11-28
as in jump with right, kick with right, and land with right? if so... yea took me a while... i was just practicing my 540 roundhouse and then i thought why dont i try it with my other foot...tips...right at the end when your about to land on your left try to kick your right foot a bit and swivel your head.

tornado kick-study wushu. just kidding.
by avatar on 2001-12-07

ok.-begin by jumping off your right leg, spinning counter-clockwise,bring the left knee up to your chest, keep the right leg pointed towards the floor-complete the spin and land on the right leg.this will give tou the feeling for launching, kicking and landi

360 Roundhouse.
by Michael Kim on 2002-08-24
This is also called a 360 Roundhouse Kick, or a 360 Round. It's really esy to do, but helps a LOT when learning 540s.

540 is so easy i cant beleive ppl have trouble with it!
by Anonymous on 2002-11-08
ok all u ppl who cant do a 540 is sad,

540 easy?
by Tijs on 2003-01-15
I'm a Taekwondo white belt....a 540 aint easy for me....Tornado kick is tho

540
by AZul on 2003-02-11
I';m a taekwondo black belt. Although it is easy to learn, i advise people not to use it for taekwondo tournaments... really unstable and slow. easily countered by a back thrust(back kick). but can try using 360 instead to confuse opponent and to gain distance.

how to do a 540
by Dustin on 2003-02-21
u guys need some tips on a 540, put ur right leg back and step forward with the right leg for momentum then as soon as u do that with the right leg twist your right ankel this is called cheat its a way to kind of make it a faster rotation then bring up ur left leg and tuck it in and spin a 180 for momentum your still on the ground remember as soon as u face the direction u were facin jump, NOW u have ALOT of momentum throw your tucked in feet in the air and start gettin verticle this is important keep it still tucked in now the kicking leg is goin to go over the tucked in feet ,remember the higher the tucked in leg is the higher the 540,now do a cressen kick over the tucked in leg and land on the same foot now just do the last rotation by rotating a 180 with the kicking leg.

540
by kintanon on 2003-04-02
The way I do a 540 is that I have my right leg back, I jump, perform an inner crescent kick all the way around, so that my right leg passes in front of my body then around until it is in front again and I land on it. I'm unable to do the version of the 540 where you throw your non-kickleg up and jump off of one foot. Am I doing a real 540 or is it a different move?

by chopstick on 2003-12-06
There are a few cool combinations I do. I am a 2nd d an in Taekwondo and I do a mixed variation of it. Fi rst start running, leg opposite of jumping does a round house then turn backwards and use jumping l eg for a backkick, then at last turn do a roundhous e.

540
by CRASH on 2004-01-02
On the 540 you can't land stiff leg. well you can b ut it will realy hurt and Cause early arthritics. You need to land with a bent knee and let it give. Th is should take some preashur off. I Have just lear ned the 540 and had made the mistake myself. This s hould help

tornado kick
by wushuboi on 2004-02-19
Tornado kicks are taught in first year training for wushu. Our sifu starts us by standing right le g forward on the toe. turn counter-clockwise and lift left knee tight and spin, arms above head. Lo oks kind of like a dance pirouette. Helps get your body position in the air.... once you can do that a nd land without stumbling backward or forward, t hen you'll do the same, but this time as you lift yo ur left knee, kick the right leg with an inside cre scent kick. should land either on right leg or bot h legs at same time. Is important to throw your han ds on the vertical not the horizontal. Gives you m ore height. Once you can do that, then you can run i nto it. Common approaches are 2 steps or 4. First s tep will be with left foot, then you last step will push you off the ground. Kick looks great, but onl y if you control your left knee!

Its easy
by Master on 2004-02-22
do a jumping, spining cresent kik but land on the leg that you kick with.

A round kik is helpful to get the speed.

TORNADO KICK
by BABO on 2004-03-20
TORNADO IS HARD. VERY HARD. VERY VERY HARD. VERY VERY VERY HARD. VERY VERY VERY VERY HARD. HAHAHAH AHAHAHAHA. I AM THE MASTTERRERRRRRRRRR. HAHAHA HAHAHA TORNADO KICKS ARE VERY DANGEROUS. IT COUL D KILL SOMEONE. U NEED GREAT HEIGHT AND SPEED. BEF ORE DOING THE KICK, YOU SHOULD DO AN INSIDE CRESCE NT KICK FOR MORE POWER AND SPEED

Easy Kicks
by TKDHKDGUY on 2004-06-04
Anyone who thinks someone who cannot excecute a particular kick is less of a martial artist needs to check their priorities. A good friend of mine h as very stiff hip joints and cannot excecute a sid e kick higher than waist level, let alone rotate t he hips for a proper tornado kick. He is a heck of a m artial artist though. I know this because he regu larly schools me when we are practicing our Hapki do. It's not what you can do, but what you can do wit h it.

Tornado Kick
by Anonymous on 2004-07-19
FOR BEGINNERS: It helps if you do a roundhouse ki ck (let's say you use your right leg) first to get y our momentum, then plant your kicking leg (right ) down next to the leg you use for support (left) as your turning (to your left quickly. When you star t to face forward, bring your knee up (left leg) an d out (to your left) as you whip your right leg and e xecute another randhouse kick (with your right) . You can stop there but its better if you let your b ody turn right after the tornado kick.
FOR ADVA NCE STUDENTS: Replace all kicks with cresent kic ks; that is, start with your normal kick (right le g) an inward cresent then plant down (that's only if you need it although you should just jump and to rk your body) and as you start to face forward imme diately do a outward cresent kick (with your left leg) and an inward cresent kick to follow it (righ t leg). ***THE EXAMPLES I PUT WERE FROM A RIGHTSID E COVER STANCE***

K this kick isn't that hard ill walk you through i t. Using your right leg to kick first stand with yo u left leg forward then step with your right foot a nd twist it so it faces backwards then using all th e force from the first twist throw your left leg ar ound hop off your right and twist your torso lift y our right as high as you can and bring it down the ki ck should come down at a 45 angle.

One legged Tornado
by Tim on 2004-10-04
My friends and i are in XMa and we have taught ours elves lots of tricks. Advice for everyone if you a re teaching yourself without an instructor I wou ld highly recommend you strength train first. An yways one legged Tornado:
Start a right leg bac k fighting stance and lift your left leg. jump for ward with you right leg and do a 180. land it then 36 0 kick and land on the same leg. This makes it much e asier.
